How did the organisation of early societies change?

Early societies started to change rapidly both socially and economically, as early societies began transforming into advanced cities. Through agricultural changes, people were now able to have surplus amounts of food, thus leading to further expansion of a stable society. So for them to produce a surplus of food, people were forced to develop irrigation systems, and people now had the freedom to dive into other occupations. Irrigation systems ultimately led to the development of specialized workers. More jobs allowed for more benefits in the society, as mentioned in the textbook when “individuals who learned to become craftspeople created valuable new products, such as pottery, metal objects, and woven cloth. In turn, people who became traders profited from a broader range of goods to exchange—craftwork, grains, and many raw materials.” (Unit 1, P19) The more they produced, the more they were able to push trade forward. Trading allowed for more jobs, specialized workers, leading to the development of social classes. Over time, every social class became increasingly defined, and as a result, the city’s entire structure became further altered. As population rocketed, societies progressively allowed more space for complex institutions to develop. “Complex institutions, such as government, religion, and the economy, are another characteristic of civilization.” (Unit 1, P20) Through complex institutions, technology began to progress rapidly, further contributing to the city’s advancement. Through the various changes in society and economy, early societies went on to grow into complex cities.

Farming – The most significant effect of the agricultural revolution

The introduction of farming was one of the most significant effects on the growth and development of early human beings. Around 10,000 years ago, when seeds scattered around a campsite, some woman discovered that the seeds had grown the next season. Compared to their previous way of survival, hunting, farming was able to provide a stable and ongoing source of food. The reason for this continuous source is because when farmers plant their seeds; they are going to enjoy the harvesting based on the same amount of food that they planted earlier. On the other hand, hunting had certain possibilities for the surplus of food, which means that some people can survive based off of excess food. As the number of other jobs started to increase, the village of Catal Huyuk began supporting highly skilled workers. People could now rely on a steady source of food due to the occurrence of farming; supporting the growth of the human population, and eventually becoming one of the largest milestones in the history of the human race.

Japan Final Formative Assessment (How did Imperialism affect Japan?)

Question: How did Imperialism affect Japan?

P: By having a strong and solid power structure, Japan had prospered in both political and economical ways, but soon led to more loss due to greed.

Ev: Because they “admired Germany’s strong centralized government, for example,” they then “used its constitution as a model for their own.” (Unit 6, 811)

Ex: By referencing the German’s centralized government, Japan had allowed itself to become more modernized during its time of Imperialism. The German Eventually, this method had worked to enhance Japan as a nation in general. Through strategically placing the empire through the western path of industrialization, by the 20th century, the Japanese economy had become one of the most modern in the world. Traditional Japanese industries had expanded to provide the country with unique trade products. While at the same time, developing modern industries, had made Japan a worthy competitor to the West.

Ev: Before the Americans settled in, there was “a long Japanese tradition [that] had viewed the emperor as divine. He was also an absolute ruler whose will was law. The emperor now had to declare that he was not divine.” As a result of the occupation, “it brought deep changes to Japanese society.” (Unit 7, 951)

Ex: Having been occupied by the Americans, the Japanese’s’ power structure had been changed to become a democracy and constitutional monarchy. Also, they demilitarized the country, so that wars could be prevented. The new constitution had taken the power from the emperor’s crown, and soon, he simply became a figurehead. After the admission, the people elected a two-house parliament by the name of The Diet. From then on, citizens of both genders, from the age of 20 had the right to vote.

L: Conclusively, the increase of imperialism through power structures in Japan was the key factor that had allowed them to thrive, but had eventually become seized under the control of foreign nations.

The Mughal Empire: DBQ Document 2

Document 2 is an excerpt from Jahangir, Akbar’s son and Mughal emperor from 1605 to 1627. He is most noted for increasing the size of the empire by conquering new lands and continuing his father’s policies. He also wrote a memoir that was intended to glorify himself and set an example to his successors. While it covered the first thirteen years of his reign, his addiction to alcohol and opium eventually stripped him of his ability to lead effectively.  In this passage, he retold a conversation he had with Akbar regarding Hindus in the Empire.

Excerpt:…I find myself a powerful monarch, a shadow of God upon earth. I have seen that he bestows the blessing of his gracious providence upon all his creatures without distinction…with all of the human race, with all of God’s creatures, I am at peace; why then should I permit myself to be the cause of any molestation or aggression to any one?… I have thought it therefore my wisest plan to leave these men alone. Neither is it to be forgotten that the class of whom we are speaking… are usefully engaged, either in the pursuit of the arts or science, or of improvements for the benefit of mankind…

Question:

How did Jahangir view his Hindu subjects? What were his reasons for allowing them to practice their religion?

Structure/Outline:

Point: Jahangir paid huge respect towards Hindus. He thought of them as equals and strictly believed that they could possibly contribute to the advancement of human kind.

Evidence: “Neither is it to be forgotten that the class of whom we are speaking… are usefully engaged, either in the pursuit of the arts or science, or of improvements for the benefit of mankind”

Explanation: He explains that Hindus had benefited from various concepts, such as science, mathematics, and human progression as a general.

Evidence: “I have seen that he bestows the blessing of his gracious providence upon all his creatures without distinction”

Explanation: By mentioning [god] he has created all the humankind with no distinction between them whatsoever. From this, Jahangir is attempting to say that all humans are created equal; therefore, Muslims are the same in every aspect, and they should be equally treated as the Muslims.

Link: Jahangir paid huge respect towards Hindus and in addition, he extensively promoted acceptance towards them.

Paragraph:

In the quote: “Neither is it to be forgotten that the class of whom we are speaking… are usefully engaged, either in the pursuit of the arts or science, or of improvements for the benefit of mankind,” he explains that Hindus had benefited from various concepts, such as science, mathematics, and human progression as a general. From the fact that “[he] has seen that he bestows the blessing of his gracious providence upon all his creatures without distinction,” God has created the human race with no distinction between them whatsoever. From this, Jahangir is attempting to say that all humans are created equal; therefore, Muslims are the same in every aspect, and they should be treated equally as the Muslims. Conclusively, from the evidence shown above, one can see the Jahangir paid huge respect towards huge respect towards Hindus. Also, he extensively promoted acceptance towards them.

The Spice trade viewed from four perspectives

Screen Shot 2015-09-10 at 12.11.04 PM

The four subjects of social studies have significantly influenced and affected the outcome of the Spice trade. The Spice trade is not just simply trading things and moving products from point A to point B. At the same time, it also allowed different ideas and beliefs to spread throughout the world.  Through the four lenses of social studies, modern audiences are able to develop a profound understanding of the trade.

One of the major connections that affected the spice trade as a whole and the way we look towards the trade was the interaction between history and economics. A very common understanding of this relationship would be that the economic systems people have chosen in the past and their needs affected their decisions. By thoroughly understanding how economic motivations and aspects influenced our trading ancestors, modern audiences will be able to understand how history operated, allowing the events in history make more sense. A good example would be how the traders in the past have chosen the path they decided to take during the Spice trade. Essentially, a common image painted during the Big Era Six was how, “the Europeans simply did not have access to the knowledge of the spice routes and trading networks that were known to the Chinese, Arabs, Indians and Africans” (2) as mentioned in the reading, Spice it up. From the fact that the Europeans were not able to gain knowledge of the trade routes, it resulted in them not being able to go on trade expeditions, by not able to go on expedition trips, they would not be able to trade their spices, and by not trading their spices, they would not be able to earn profit. In short, small problems like that would lead to a domino effect. Putting that aside, a part of history are also humans’ cultures and beliefs.

Another major relationship that greatly affected how the spice trade operated was the link between Economics and Cultural Anthropology. Different societies, consists of different spices. Since the spice trade was mainly driven by different amounts of supply and demand, economy results as an important part of the trade. As found in the secondary source “Spice it up”, “As the demand for (tea) grew, so did the pressure on merchants to supply it” (1). From this, it is clear that demand is directly proportional to the supply itself. As people gain demand for a product, the suppliers would increase their supplies. As seen from the quote “many Europeans could not afford (peppercorn) or any spices. Others used them only for special occasions, such as weddings. In richer homes, the spice cabinet was kept locked.” (2) From this sentence, audiences are able to perceive that pepper was considered as a “wealthy family’s” product. At the same time, it was seen as an expensive and rare spice, being the fact that it was only used in weddings. Different cultures have different trading habits, so in order to generate a successful trade deal, the traders need to know what means they take in order to get what they need. The results of not knowing a certain community’s trading habits will result in a wholly different trading pattern. As mentioned in the observations made by a British merchant man on Batavia, “the most in demand for European consumption, coffee, pepper, and sugar, the two former are entirely monopolized by the government, and heavy penalties are inflicted on those cultivators who dispose of their produce to private individuals.” As of this, if the traders from elsewhere were to trade coffee or pepper with Batavia, they would suffer from severe penalties, thus earning bad repetitions. Nonetheless, the main goal for both sides is to complete a good transaction, if they don’t have prior knowledge on the needs of locals, and import supplies that the local people don’t need, then ultimately, they will not be able to successfully create trade. The beliefs that many people generate is sometimes based on the geographical situation their community is living in.

At first glance, it may not seem that Economics and geography have much in common, but in reality they depend on each other at an unimaginable scale. When taking a look at the geography of a nation, the main consider is the impact each feature has on the production of resources. It greatly affects the distribution of goods and services based on weather changes and its location. Geography determines the resource. The resource determines the economic activity. The successful development of the economy results in diversification and the sequence will grow increasingly towards growth and prosperity, which by themselves, leads the economy to expand. Additionally, the geographic features of a specific area is able to create a new industry. For example, as known to the public, many Arabian countries are famous for its fresh and delicious mints. By being known for good mints, it means the countries themselves have large amounts of Mentha plants in the area. This allows them to have a prospering spice market. By having large amounts of mints in the area, they have established themselves a new trading station in the spice trading route as seen on the map. By having new trading stations in routes, traders have allowed the community to benefit from different types of religions. When trading, not only products are shipped around, but beliefs are simultaneously brought to different places. During the spice trade, Islamic regions were important to the trade as a whole. Therefore, with all types of products passing through this region, Arabs gained the majority of control over the route. Consequently, different places will be exposed to different cultures and beliefs. The occurrence of the spice trade have brought not only trading into the publics’ sight, but allowing them to see the distribution of religions throughout the world.

Four lenses – Connected?

By considering the evidence presented in the Traders simulation, and the ‘Spice it up’ reading done in class, explain how the 4 lenses of the social studies interact to help us understand how the world works. Max 1 paragraph.

By starting off, the four lenses of social studies are Cultural anthropology, economics, history and geography. the four categories mentioned above is hugely related to the spice trade. First of all, geography is a huge factor that makes the spice trade what it is. During the trade, some countries were closer to Europe than the others, allowing for easier trade between traders. However, the geographic locations and what they grow native there made for various price changes. For example, the further away a spice is from the buyer and the less stock it has available, the more expensive the spice will be itself. Another aspect of the lens is Economics. The trade between two oppositions is a huge part of economics. As an example, the availability of a certain spice is dependent on the demand and the prices it was traded for. When a spice is rare on the market, then the demand for this spice will rise up along with the prices. When the spice is available everywhere, the demand and prices will drop accordingly. Another part of the lens is history. As of history, there were original trade routes established by the traders’ predecessors that were later modified by the existing traders. For example, the route that the existing traders are traveling on may be the same one that their ancestors traveled on decades or centuries ago. The last aspect in the lens is Cultural anthropology. When people are trading between different places, they also bring along different cultures.

Time used: 15 minutes.

Spice trade – Reading question

2015 August 24th

What is a goal you would set for yourself if you were to complete the task again?

Answer: Next time, i would scan each paragraph more briefly, instead of reading more details. So then this way, i would be able to come up with the 3 questions more quickly, therefore buying me more time to answer other ones. This would be one goal that i would set for myself next time.

A soft breeze of wind blows over the walls of an ancient castle in the Middle East. People are living their ordinary lives until the suddenness of missiles come into view. Multiple missiles are fired from Helicopters into the weakest point of the structure. Concrete and bricks tumble down to the ground as civilians struggle to make their way out of the building.

Four men force the terrorist leader to a chair. The leader of the pack, William Brown attempts to threaten the terrorist leader with a modern ACE 23 assault rifle, pending for answers on his latest move. In the duration of a wink, the terrorist abruptly pulls the pin out of a grenade. And in a fraction of a second, a second agent, named Chang realizes its brutality, as he instantaneously bursts out to wrestle him. The lives of five people, including the terrorist himself, are sacrificed. Four down, one makes it. Rookie Charlotte Brown gives one last glimpse at her teammates, and bursts into a prompt escape. There’s a saying, in which, As a unity, no man must be left behind, and is exactly why Charlotte is in deep regret for her own negligence. She swears she will seek revenge.

10 years later…

It floated through her mind again. Those horrifying thoughts of that shocking sight. She would never even dare to think about the consequences of the grenade exploding in that room. An evil groan slowly emerged behind his mask; knowing it would be just a slight moment before the sharpened blade of his knife would strike down her skull precipitously, tear through her flesh, stabbing the brain. In the heat of the moment her lustful blue eyes pierced through the murderer’s soul, moaning and groaning with each thrust. Slowly, adjusting the grip of the palm, the murderer slowly added force to the handle. Death came ever so peacefully, quietly, and steadily. Nothing but stirring with awe and amazement as she drew her last breath. It was like a film had being paused and sent into a freeze frame forever. Seconds later, the darkest-red coloured fluid came sputtering out of her like a waterfall, as it effortlessly generated a red pool around the lifeless body… The only woman agent of the branch had seen the last moment of her life. Agent Charlotte Smith was on a mission to infiltrate bioterrorist Kelvin Davis. On a recent mission to intrude one of Davis’ safe houses, she had been forced to expose her identity, which had lead to her sorrowful death.

“Assemble the E.O.A.,” claims Arthur Blunt, the head of External operations agency.

All members of the branch launch a virtual meeting in the boardroom in London HQ.

“It’s been 10 years since the loss of four loyal agents.” He said with a sorrowful tone.

“Uncontrollable things happen in life, and some, are the way they’re meant to be. We shall sit in silence, in memory of our fellow colleagues.

“And now, the time has come for replacements.”

The agents seem shocked.

“Each of you have one week, and in that time, you must search for what you believe, is a next-gen spy.”

Within them, is Brandon Ryan. One of the few highly trained E.O.A agents. He measured in at 6 foot 2, which made him pretty buff. He was tall, but exceedingly lank, he came equipped with broad shoulders, long arms and legs. So long in fact, that it had seemed that his limbs had extended miles out of his sleeves. All these combined to provide him with maximum maneuverability. His head was small, and seemingly flat on top, with huge ears, blue eyes that looked like it’s about to explode in your face, and a long snipe nose. Whenever you’re in London, despite how tall, or how confident you are, you always feel like a miniscule goldfish in an ocean. The busy and anonymous environment abruptly overwhelms you. Whenever agents are not being watched under the surveillance of the agency, the stakes are high. Anything could happen. Your life could disappear within a snap.

With such high stakes, Brandon must immediately uncover, what must be the next agent in line. As he walks down the weary streets of London, a distinctive metallic blue Mazda MX-5 catches his attention. One of the most iconic sports cars ever made. The majority of modern sports cars can either be luxurious, or Spartan, but the main point of interest is mechanical performance and nimble maneuvering. He was suddenly disturbed by the arrival of the owner.

“Checking out my ride eh?”

“That is one magnificent machine. A true sports car.” He replied with a sense of humbleness within his tone.

“80’s mid-engine sports cars don’t require a large and powerful engine. All that mattered was a light-weight construction, and balanced chassis, which would make it fly through corners.”

“Absolutely right mate.”

They walk around to admire the beauty of it. The car had genuinely sucked Brandon into his own little world. Just as he was about to finish admiring it, something sudden caught him in the corner of his eyes. He attempted to look over. On the corner of the street, there were a few adult gang members all bossing in on a teenager. It was when the teenager was begging for life, that Brandon realized the dangerous situation he was in. He rushed over like a tumble of wind. It was then, that moments of brilliance began to accumulate. “Hey you little prick, where’s that fiver you owe us?” “I haven’t got any.” The lead members’ voice dripped with hatred, as he looked into the kids’ eye with a stabbing glare. He merely raised an eyebrow, and gave an amused grin of satisfaction, like as if he was wrecked before the battle even started. Things started to get interesting. Out of nowhere, the lead member shipped out a metal tube around his belt, in a move that was meant to kill, but with perfect precision the teenager stopped him. Acknowledging their team leader’s situation, one by one, they join the lethal game. One of them slowly lifts out a pocketknife out his pocket while gradually approaching the target. With nearly no time to think, the teenager bursts into a complex move in which, puts the leader into a position where he is able to strangle him to death. The completion of that move had bought the teenager more time. Assumingly, Brandon would have expected him to have lost in this battle, but things weren’t going as expected. Both oppositions rushed towards each other, with the gang member posing a posture that would perfectly place the knife firmly in his head. At the moment of approach, the teenager firmly grabs his arms, releases it into a never-ending spin, giving him a chance to snatch the knife from him, and lastly threaten him with it. With such high stakes, the member decides to surrender and slip away with this. Thinking about his original target, Brandon rushes up to him and says,

“You’ve got some potential boy.”

“What potential?”

“What you did there would rank into Class A martial arts. You suit every single need we require.”

“What on earth are you even talking about?”

“Follow me.”

Brandon pulls out his smartphone and dials a certain number. A few minutes later, an automated sports vehicle pulls by next to them, and they hop on. Onboard, Brandon pulls out a remote in order to activate the extremely sophisticated technology they possessed. As the car slowly pulled to a halt at the lights, through the corner of his eye, Brandon picked up the sight of several black BMW sedans in the rear view mirror. Minutes pass by and the sound of squealing tires float by their ears. The sights of flares start appearing everywhere. There was only one choice. Hammer down. With just the slightest touch of the cars’ accelerator pedal, the vehicle just literally takes flight. The V8 motor under the hood propelled the car into a whizzing stream of traffic, which nearly took the lives of two innocent citizens. But the positive side was that they lost the sedans. After the speedy ride, they arrive in ou top-secret building located on the outskirts of London. Upon entering, they are greeted with rapid quick elevators that would take them deep down into the E.O.A’s HQ.

“Pleasure to see you all, my name is Gerard Lock and I will be your training instructor. The three weeks you are about to encounter will probably be some of the most grueling moments of your life. Throughout this course, you will slowly become a brutal fighting warrior, marching your way towards success.”

Just like that, they set off on a three-week journey in search for success. In that time, they’ve been through sea-full of obstacle courses, climbed numerous mountains, and overrode uncountable forests, until they finally reach the point of elimination. The last part of this training course required the seven contenders to put their hands into a bowl full of electric eels, in order to retrieve a car key, which then would be used to leave the training location. As usual, weak ones naturally retreated and the brave ones stepped ahead. After several turns at attempting to retrieve the keys, Victor finally reaches success. With no relations to the secret service whatsoever, Victor had ultimately made his way into the spy agency. Victor had grown up from a family with no signs of wealth anywhere. It had become apparent he was no normal teenager. This unique gift from god had made its way into uses for the secret services. After seeing such magnificent performance in training grounds, Gerrard and the agency puts him to the real test. A mission. Several days ago, undercover agents have been receiving news that multiple celebrities and high profile people have gone missing over the past few weeks.

“It is your turn to satisfy the curious hearts of fans over the globe.” He said with a slight tone of confidence.

“The man behind this is definitely not taking this as a joke. His name is Aaron Stratford. Previous records show he was an outstanding student in college and has received well over 50 prizes in different topics. Everything climbs up at a steady hill until he reaches the age of 16, where he miraculously vanished into thin air. At that time, neither friends of family had any acknowledgement of just the shadow of where he was. He reemerged back in society at the age of 21 with huge suspicion lying on his back. One year later, for no apparent reason he killed several relatives and suffered three years ago. “Is this guy a lunatic?” Victor silently thought to himself. “So it is your job to get all things back in normal order.” “Nowadays, there is only one thing that can grab everyone’s attention. Media. Media is one of the world’s most lethal weapons yet. It has the ability to spread, contaminate and infect people with millions of updates. By utilizing media, he is now able to grasp control over the world. At the moment he gets his filthy palms over social media, our lives will be doomed.” “So, it’s your job to defeat and infiltrate him.”

With uncontrollable grasp brimming his mind, Victors’ eyes stared ablaze. He had no idea of how psychic this guy was. What if one day, he really did take over this world? Our lives would be monitored under the tip of his finger, every step and action you take will be strictly restricted to a certain level? This is inhuman. With that in mind, he smashed his fist onto the wall. He was determined to make this not happen.

And with that, Victor was off to the well-known city of New York. Unsurprisingly, he still hasn’t earned the trust of his mentor. Well, at least it could act as some experience he can gain for his final mission. He watched as his mentor, Brandon drive off in an Aston Martin DB9. While being monitored by surveillance cameras all over the city, Brandon activates something truly astonishing. The side panels of the car flips out, and stretched out to be wings. The taillight’s shrunk in, and dual jet engines emerged. At the split of a second, the Aston flies off, over the busy streets of Fifth Avenue. Hidden deep beneath the streets of New York was a sound wave projector. Small on the outside, Potential damage it can cause? With the click of a button, it sends out sound waves with extremely high frequencies. All jet engines are prone to malfunction when exposed to high frequencies. The high frequency causes the gearbox in the jet to clog up, forcing the pilot to perform a landing. After about 15 minutes of flight, the Aston Martin landed on the outskirts of Long Island. Everything seemed normal after the landing, but what Brandon didn’t know was that they were set up for a trap. What happened left deep regrets in the agency’s history. There were sensitive sensors on the ground that would then trigger an explosive trap that would leave Brandon helpless. A huge bright red ball of flame burst into mid air. The death of Brandon meant it was time for Victor to unleash his glory. “Your turn. Get ready.” Commanded Gerard. Within hours, they flew to the isolated carribean islands, where the beach’s water deflected the sun’s great glare into his eyes and is forced to look elsewhere. The trees made a canopy of the jungle hide what lies underneath. The sound of the sea made him shiver with fear for what he could be put up with during this mission. Whilst exploring the jungle, a hand tapped him on the back and said: “Follow me.” And in they went into a small path along the sides of a few palm trees. Few minutes later they promptly arrive in what seemed like a large mansion situated hundreds of metres underground. In result, this turned out to be a military weaponry base of America. The whole point of being here was the key factor that differentiates him and a normal person. The futuristic, forward-thinking, sophisticated gadgets. John Chen, director of weaponry equipment strolls along the cabinet and picks out a pair of glasses. “These are no ordinary pair of glasses. There’s an integrated phone in this, hold the side for three seconds and two more taps you’ll be connected to HQ. This of course needs to Then over here, we’ve got the usual’s, the video pen, Taser ring, shoe blade, and all the others you would expect to have. You can keep these in a parachute backpack, just in case if anything goes wrong.” Just like that, Victor set off for the quest in search for this cold-blooded monster.

“It has been reported that the criminal, Aaron Stratford had plans of a relaxing vacation in the islands. This made it an easy catch, as he does not have many backup teams there. “You are to sneak into his vacation house, where you will squeeze facts about where the celebrities are. But remember, do not kill him. The hearts of thousands will depend on his life as he knows everything behind this.”

“Go save the world now” said Gerard with a slightly sarcastic tone in his voice. After a long journey on a private Hummer provided by the agency, Victor had finally made his way to the house. Before barging in he must observe surroundings. A good agent must never take any action before observing their surroundings. The house was rather large in area, according to the data he studied on the way here, all sides of the house is reinforced with metre long thick concrete bulletproof walls. All entrances to the mansion is guarded by two guards, each carrying dual pistols and three grenades just in case if anything goes wrong. It was time for the break-in. Whilst observing the building from a distance, he found out that there are guards that regularly open the garage door. He grab hold of that chance. On their fifth shift of the day, Victor made his approach. He threw cobblestones at the garage door to attract attention, while he can fist-fight the other guard down. After getting into the garage, multiple million dollar supercars feasts his eyes. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Ferrari 488 GTB, Lamborghini Huracan and the extremely rare Lykan Hypersport stood right in front of him. Putting aside this attraction, he continued his journey deeper into the money falling mansion. And again, he meets two other guards. But thanks to his black belt in karate and numerous awards, he defeats the guards once again and gains access to the master bedroom. The first thing that caught his attention was a PC sitting quietly on the table. He rushed over to boot it up. There was a document on the desktop. He double clicked to open it, to discover the shocking and disappointing truth. There is no such person as Aaron Stratford. All this was to prepare him for his first mission scheduled months later. Also, Brandon hadn’t died, in fact he was watching Victor all the way through, monitoring his process, and witness how he inherited skills from the master. With a soul filled with anger and disappointment, he barged out of the door and screamed as loudly as he could: “WHAT KIND OF A JOKE IS THIS?!?!”

The scarlet sky dispersed across the horizon like crimson blood while smoothly smearing it across a colossal canvas. Glimmers of light bounced off the steady river flow, sending slithers of flamboyant shafts of light through into his eyes. With the clouds floating like soft cotton puffs surrounded by the crispness of the sky’s colour, Victor slowly walked over the hills into the fading sunlight, rethinking the stupidity of that event.

Let “Yes” become a habit

Simple Yes Poem

In order to accommodate my understandings of this book, I have created a poem about being positive about life. The poem is centrally based around the fact that if you be positive throughout life, and everything will be fine.

“Be positive about things in life.” You have probably heard this more than once during your life. Quoted from probably all parents over the world. This sentence can recall countless memories within a child’s mind. Sometimes you might find that you wake up in a good mood, but as the day progresses you tend to start thinking negatively. Staying positive is always a good way to keep on track. In the book “Yes Man” by Danny Wallace, Danny himself recounts his die-hard commitment to allow openness with profound insights and humbling honesty. Saying “yes” takes him into a new field of existence, where he rediscovers life. “There’s a positive side to everything. (Wallace 89) In the beginning of the book, we see main protagonist Danny as a bank loan officer, who has become withdrawn since his divorce from his ex-wife. Routinely, he continuously ignores everyone around him and has started to generate an increasingly negative outlook on his miserable life. Subsequently, he misses out on a lot of opportunities; personal life and at work. Then came a day when his close friend Pete turns up at his house and lectures him about how if he doesn’t now change his life, he will end up completely lonely. With such help from around him, he was motivated to seize the opportunity to say “Yes”. “It will change everything” (Wallace 67) After attending a “Yes” seminar, he makes the decision that turns his world the right side up. From then on, no matter what situation he was in, he would say yes. He starts seizing every opportunity that comes in his way. He renews all his relationships and miraculously builds a strong bond with his boss. Constantly saying “yes” works to Carl’s advantage at the maximum.

There are two primary choices in life: to accept certain conditions as they already exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them. When life is shamelessly looking down at you, look it directly in the eye. Don’t tell yourself you can’t do it because then you will be determined that you can’t. Focus more on the positives instead of pointlessly draining time looking at the downsides. The aspiration of becoming a positive person comes only if you are convinced of being that positive person. Don’t let the negativity stop you from seeing all the good that’s around you. God brought us to this world because life is an opportunity. He is expecting you to take benefit of it. Life is just like driving down a long road with no destination in mind, and you never know when it’s going to end. Strive stronger for another tomorrow, everything will turn out just fine. But all roads come to an end. Live everyday at its limit.
