Today in class we watched “21 Chump Street” by Lin Mannel Miranda. This piece is also known as the ‘shortest’ Broadway musical.
21 Chump street is based off a real-life story that was featured on the podcast ” This American Life”.
Summarize 1 sentence: Niomi -(an undercover police officer) who was a 25year old police officer, who went into a high school to find who is selling drugs and who is part of it. A senior boy named Justin falls in love with her, and Niomi asks him to get drugs for her. Justin manages to get drugs for her to go to prom. However, Niomi later reports Justin as a drug dealer in school and he goes to prison.
Tension: When Niomi was saying take the money, but Justin was refusing it./ first part where justin says ” how the heck do i~” it repeats and builds up
Emotion: Last part when Justin says “Niomi what the heck did you do”…
Atmosphere: Bright to quite and sad, but mostly has an entertaining and bright vibe since the place it was took was in school.
Personal Thoughts: I loved the show, how it was so entertaining but also had a message (real life issues in it). I loved how it had choreography between, but not too much to disturb the show. I really enjoyed the small details of the choreography when they went from slow motions to fast motions. I also think the 3 actors at the back behind did a great job of filling the stage and harmonizing.
