Journal Entry #4 – The End

All of our hard work comes together into our final product: the video. Hope you like it!

Polymer Project 2

We have worked on our product for about a month and our ideas have changed drastically over that period of time. We first had to define the problem that we wanted to solve, for us it was insulating sound.

Screen Shot 2016-04-18 at 20.48.05

We came up with many ideas such as the “Murder Box” or just a box for people that like loud music. Then we went on to creating and perfecting that idea. We revisted the defining the problem stage once we found out the polymer that we made can’t insulate sound, the main job. So we discussed and came up with a better idea: a polymer for boxers who are going through tough times.

Screen Shot 2016-05-02 at 20.33.20

That gets us up to here. We have all worked together thoroughly and have enjoyed working on this project.

If I could change something that we did, I would do more research on the things that go into sound-insulators.

The Sentence That Could

*SPOILERS*

The storyline would go much differently if the protagonist never fully thought through what they were doing, wouldn’t it? What if Harry never had the interest of going after Voldemort? What if Katniss never thought about killing people?Particular lines can completely change how the storyline can go.

The protagonist’s thoughts control where the story can go. For example: “Whoever had left that money in the alley had left two bags, which meant that there was on still out there somewhere. And we were getting the blame for it,”(Rai 77). This picks up the pace and adds another bit of crucial evidence to the task at hand, which makes the book’s storyline get really interesting and tense. If the protagonist never got to the conclusion the story would have ended badly; in a dead end with the worst outcome. Another quote from the protagonist’s ideas were: “My mum was right. We had no idea if anyone was watching or not. And if someone was watching and saw two youths walking down the road with their bag [of money] … Well, you can figure out the rest,” (Rai 60). This leads the plot onwards and thus creates a big conflict about the bag of money. The alternate path that could have been taken is where the main character doesn’t think about the consequences of his “gang’s” actions. From this we determine that the main character decides where the book goes or could have gone.

The speech of a supporting character can enhance the story and shed light on a different path for the book to go on. The protagonist, Billy, was talking to his Mum about the bag of money and it definitely stood out to Billy that this was a crucial bit of evidence: “‘How long have you had this money then, Billy?’

‘Er… three days,’

‘Well no argument then,’ Mum said firmly. ‘They’ll have missed [picking up the bag of money] by now for sure,” (Rai 55). This completely changed the course of where the book was heading. It was going to turn out with death but now it the protagonist thinks about doing the right thing for everyone’s sake. I found that the supporting character had a massive impact on the story, especially in the book: Skullduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy. The different ways of thinking between the two main characters keep on switching the paths of time and determine if they live or not. It is a literal life or death situation in Skullduggery Pleasant. The supporting characters in the story are sometimes the best due to their unique way of thinking.

So what would happen if Harry never had the interest of going after Voldemort? Or if Katniss never thought about killing people? Probobly a lot, as we can see from by book. Even the slightest thought or action can make a big difference in the book and the direction it takes. Take a moment and think about it when you read your next book. What would change if my character did the main action or conflict differently?

Journal Entry #3 – A Change Of Plans

Our original plan was to make a polymer that could insulate sound and was moldable around the room, we have completley changed our idea because our polymer couldn’t do the main job: insulate sound. After running experiments, we deducted that we needed a new plan because the currunt polymer didn’t do what we wanted it to. We eventually came up with the idea of making a polymer that was directed towards rich boxers who weren’t doing so well in life. We have filmed our video and are currently editing and putting it all together. We think this will do good due to the massive trends towards wresttling and boxing.

Conclusion:

Our idea has completely changed and our target market audience is rich boxers/wrestlers who are going through tough times. We are using a polymer that is a force insulator and can mold around your hand for good boxing. We are currently making and editing our video.

Journal Entry #2 – Disaster Strikes

The 2 polymers were great… if you just wanted the individually. The boogers was sticky and slimey and just how we wanted it.

IMG_4462

The Gloop had perfect moldability and elasticness.

IMG_4459

But according to what we wrote:

IMG_4465

Out prototype was a complete fail! We are going to change a lot of things next time, in fact, all of it! Next time we will make the different polymers in the same cup so that they instantly mix and are created into one. Once we have created it we can test if it does everything we want by comparing it to the polymers below in the same test.

We are also doing a long-term test to see if the polymers can stay in place and not get moldy. Here is the progress so far.

Day 1:

IMG_4458

Day 2:

Conculsion:

Our 1st prototype has gone horribly wrong, but we can learn from it and change the whole thing! Our long-term test is coming along nicely, but with the way it’s going… it might be a disaster.

Money In Da Crew

Money parody

(Playing the piano)

I protect our street, I protect our gang, to survive another day.

Ain’t it sad

And still we seem to fight with all of our might

That’s too bad

But today I got a bag

With lots of money in it

I wouldn’t have to fight at all, I’d fool around with my friends

Money, money, money

Must be funny

In a rich kid’s world

Money, money, money

Sometimes sunny

In a rich kid’s world

Aha-ahaaa

All the things I could do

With all of this money

It’s a rich kid’s world

A lot of money behind a rubbish bin, I can’t get that off my mind

Ain’t it sad

And if it happens to be free I bet something bad will come of it

That’s too bad

But I have to decide

To keep or to leave

Money, money, money

Must be funny

In a rich kid’s world

Money, money, money

Sometimes sunny

In a rich kid’s world

Aha-ahaaa

All the things I could do

With all of this money

It’s a rich kid’s world

Money, money, money

Must be funny

In a rich kid’s world

Money, money, money

Sometimes sunny

In a rich kid’s world

Aha-ahaaa

All the things I could do

With all of this money

It’s a rich kid’s world

It’s a rich kid’s world

Explanation of song:

This song fits well with my book because The Crew, that live in England, just found a bag of money behind a rubbish bin. This is a major part of the sotry and is the first real conflict we see happen. They must decide whether to keep it or to let it go. This will determine the rest of their life. This is life or death.

Polymer Journal Entry #1

My group is creating a product to insulate sound. We have many ideas to appeal to many audiences. Our idea is to create a polymer that is mouldable, insulates sound (obviously), and is cheap. This will appeal to murderers so that their victims won’t be heard. This can work for couples and someone in the couple snores. This way they can have a good sleep. Got kids that want rebel? Then use this polymer and you won’t hear any of their hard rock music! This product does everything and more. We hope our idea comes together and we don’t stop trying to achieve out goals.

Parabolas Are Everywhere!

I made this using iMovie

Parabolas are everywhere, even in real life! There are many examples of this, for example: a dog jumping, throwing something, a north korean missile. We can even figure out the standard form of the equation using LoggerPro, this can find the best fit for the parabola. From this, I found that my a-term was -22, meaning my dog jumped up and then went down. My b-term was at 67 centameters. My c-term was 2 centermeters from the origin. Thus proving that parabolas are everywhere!

The Young Guard

My name is Liu Gang. I am a Red Guard and supporter of Chairman Mao. His ideology inspires me to be better for China and communism. Seeing his face is an honor every day of my life.

With revolution, there comes change. That is what we all wanted, including Chairman Mao. But some things lived through the revolution to be seen again in modern culture. Communism stayed strong all the way through the revolution because they were the leading power. Hardly anyone, that survived, wanted China to become capitalist or anything but communist, socialist, or Marxist. Another continuity is that people in China still treat Chairman Mao like a god. Sometimes when I go back to my friends that are in the countryside, yes… they are still there, I catch the praying or saying their troubles to Chairman Mao. Once I travelled far into the countryside of China for a road trip, it was amazing, but what I noticed is that all the children think that Chairman Mao is still alive and ruling this nation. I think this is a disgrace and that someone should tell them that Xi Jingping is the new leader; however, that would make them feel like they were lied to by their teachers. We don’t want another revolution happening, I’ve been through too much.

Although these things do stay the same in modern culture there are lots of drastic changes to society, for example, the clothing changed due certain clothing being a bad element. If they didn’t the silk wasn’t burnt, many people would have created eloquent designs made of silk. The world would be a much prettier place, but it isn’t. The past is in the past. The citizens of China have started to notice Chairman Mao’s mistakes, just like me. They still think he is a great leader and they wish he was still alive, but they think that killing the smart people was a bad decision. Personally, I think that the revolution was a bad decision… but that’s my perspective.

So much has happened in the revolution but China still stays strong. That is why China will rule the world one day. I’m just waiting for the right leader. A leader that I see myself in. A leader that will take good care of us and not be tainted with power. But until that time comes, I will wait patiently. Thinking about all changes and continuities of the revolution. All the moments of my life.

I used powerpoint to make the slides but inserted into the blog post using SlideSnack
