When you live very comfortable, you never know what is on the verge of death, and you never feel death is really close to you. In the book “The adventure and life of Robinson Crusoe” by Daniel Defoe, he fought against death. Everyone says that life is the most precious thing for every person, this is especially true when you are in a dilemma like Robinson Crusoe.

Even though sometimes life is hard and tough, but after and through the tribulation, everything will be okay. Life is like a jewel, shaped with the hammer and chisel of adversity. “Accordingly I dug up a piece of ground as well as I could with my wooden spade, and diving it into two parts, I saw my grain; but as I was sowing, it casually occurred to my thoughts. That I would not sow it all at first, because I did not know when was the proper time for it; so I sowed about two thirds of the seed, leaving about a handful of each. (Defoe, 88) When he was on that uninhabited island, he didn’t have anything, everything he needs to made by himself, income from labor and work, that was worth it because he survived. Through and see that few years he was on the island, he did everything alone, he spent his time on planted foods to made foods, such as: corns and rice; made house for living and sleeping; also spent time raising animals, he usually played and spent time with them. On the island, the world is really simple, or can say that was his own world, without money and power, every day he only need to care about the foods, live and survival.

Through the whole book, at the beginning, Robinson Crusoe’s father said that their family is middle class, actually they are not that neither extremes of luxury nor poverty. The most precious wealth is not money and power, it is survival and live. Everyone alive in the world is very rich, because they have the most precious wealth.

Have you ever thought if one day you are going to an uninhabited island by yourself and live there? In the book “The life and adventures of Robinson Crusoe” by Daniel Defoe, the main character Robinson Crusoe, he is an intelligent and plucky man. “But all I could make use of, was, all that was valuable. I had enough to eat, and to supply my wants, and, what was all the rest to me? If I killed more flesh than I could eat, the dog must eat it, or the vermin.” (Defoe 110) He had a lot of strong logic and wisdom; he was a methodical person, nothing can beat him. Normal people may not able to imagine his life, it also can shows that he was very determined. He refused to yield in the face of difficulties, he will work and solve it out as well.

He is a person of great admiration, his name is Robinson Crusoe.

How can we decide a person smart or not?  Writing or reading? This is a girl called Ally who is from the book Fish in a tree by Lynda Mullally Hunt, a trouble maker, who can’t be writing,”I can’t think of anything worse than having to describe myself. I’d rather write about something more positive” (Hunt, 2).

She really wants to joins the class and the knowledge that teachers give, blend into the teachers and students, she can’t understand but she doesn’t want tell anyone, this is the most secret thing of her heart, she is shame that she was unable to speak.  For the adversities and difficulties, the best way is overcoming them, even though that is so hard to do.  You can’t run away forever, you must to face and overcome it as well.  Ally thinks she is a loser and a troublemaker at first, she felt she was worthless, but she is keep trying and learning new things, even though that was so hard.

Everybody is smart in different ways, if you are judge a person is really bad at something, so he or she must really good at something you don’t know.  “Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is ask for help” – C. Connors (Hunt, 261) Ask for help, it sounds so easy to do it, but actually it is the hardest thing for a lot of people.  Everyone wants to be perfect and brilliant in front of others, no one is willing to expose their shortcomings, we all have burdens not seen on the surface, but if you can’t solve it, asking for help, this is not your mistake, everyone is not perfect though, be a real person and be yourself, stand on solid ground, don’t live in fantasy, communicate with others, most people will help you as well.

The title of this book is fish in a tree, it is means that if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its life believing it is stupid.  So, for example, if you compare two things that totally different, it’s impossible.  For people but also the same theory, two people are good at two completely different things, then compare this two people, this is very unfair.  “She asked me to help her.  It feels great to have someone ask me for help” (Hunt, 228)  We can see she is very unconfident, only because she is not perfect.  But she forgets one thing: Everyone is smart in different ways.

Great Minds Don’t Always Think Alike

“Everybody is smart in different ways. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its life believing it is stupid.”  Ally, the main character in the book Fish in a tree, by Lynda Mullaly Hunt, a really smart girl, also a trouble maker.  Mr. Daniels, her new school teacher, he not only just cares about she is a trouble maker, but also sees her bright and clever.  Need help but afraid to ask, I think everyone should have had this kind of experience, also Ally.  Only defeated yourself, the problems will progress.  Communicate and ask, these are the most important things I learned from Ally, she tried in vain to gloss over her faults, however, if get a problem, you need face it, not escape.  Why are you feel ashamed and blush?  In this book, Ally because her inability to read, she tried many ways to hide it.  But finally, she beat herself as well.  She has been smart enough, so she can hide her inability to read.  “She discovers that there’s a lot more to her—and to everyone—than a label, and that great minds don’t always think alike.”

Brainwashed Life

“I had many beautiful dreams. I dreamed of being an actress, holding bunches of flowers, bowing again and again to answer curtain calls. Until now I had never doubted that I could achieve anything I wanted. The future had been full of infinite possibilities. Now I was no longer sure that was still true.” (Jiang, 18) This is what when her father won’t let her getting into the dance group, disappointment and confused surrounded her.  A girl who has black and short hair and with fine features, really like wearing the red scarf, she is Jiang Jili, the top student of her class, she had most happiness childhood before the Chinese Cultural Revolution, her teachers and friends like her so much.  But when she was twelve years old, the Chinese Cultural Revolution started, her life changed dramatically, began to fall apart.  Her family was humiliated by former friends and neighbors, the house search, she faced many difficult dilemmas when her father was detained…

Making choices, every people’s lifetime needs to choose a lot of things, Jili is no exception, included too.  In the book, she need to choose between the Cultural Revolution, Red Guards and her family, obviously she chooses her family as well.  “We want you to testify against your father at the struggle meeting.”  “Thin- Face looked straight into my eyes.  “You can break with your family and follow Chairman Mao, or you can follow your father and become an enemy of the people.” (Jiang, 226) At this time, I think she is desperate and almost collapse, because she thinks Chairman Mao just like a god, but her father is her most closet person, it’s so cruel to a girl who is only twelve years old.

“To fulfill my responsibility as a revolutionary, I listed all my teachers. One by one, I considered them carefully. Unfortunately, none of them seemed to hate the Party or oppose Chairman Mao. I could not write a da-zi-bao about any of them.” (Jiang 43) Because she knows if she writes someone’s name, the government will take measures with them, but as followers of Chairman Mao, revolutionaries, write da-zi-bao is their duty.

“Your dad never came home last night.  He’s been locked up.”  “He knew that he would be detained sooner or later.  He told me not to worry too much.” Grandma’s voice was steady, but her tears kept dropping on my hand.  Now I began crying too. (Jiang, 179) Painfully, her own father was detained, who would not be sad and worry?  Her father is the pillars of their family, without him, Jili was faced the most difficult dilemma of her life.

Originally, she is recognized by teachers and students as top student, she had a lot of friends, she will have a happiness childhood, she will have a bright future in Communist China, but, it changed.  Just because the Chinese Cultural Revolution, her world began to fall and changed.  She loves her family so much, but also loves China, the Cultural Revolution took away all the things belong to her, but actually she is a fantastic girl.

I think this revolution was important for China, because of Mao wanted everyone to destroy the “Four Olds”, he created a little red book full of his quotations, and the army of Red Guards to support the revolution, because of this, schools were shut down and students and teachers were sent to be reeducated in the countryside.  Many students lost their education from schools and books, so most of them were illiterate.  Chinese today are still influence by this revolution, this shows this revolution changed China forever, made China worse.

In the forest…

The book “The wind in the willows” there are so many characters in this book. The three animals that impressed me most, mole, toad, and badger. They have different personality, disposition. Mole, generous, extremely loyal to the other animals, compared to other animals he is very younger. In this book, he grew up with his friends, from frightened and timid changed very brave. Toad, such a “bad” character in “The wind in the willows. Mole said: “You know, I really am worried about Toad.”  Because he is an aristocrat and really rich, that is why he is very extravagant and wasteful.  But he had friends, eventually they help him embody a more mature and grounded attitude towards life.   Oldest, stoic, steady, friendly….  Yes, this is badger.  He was out of touch with society.  Even through he is really  hospitable and caring deeply for his friends and the other animals.  But he is a seriousness animal, it makes people feel that he is hard to get along with him, the other animal were very afraid of him.

These animals live in the forest together, under the willow they live a happy life together.  Although it is different things happen every day, whether good or bad things.
