Fast/Slow Rickshaw Drawing

In this project, we were introduced to the gestural and continuous contour line, gestural drawing is more of a fast-paced type of drawing, you don’t focus on details you just draw what you see within a minute. Now continuous contour line is a lot slower, taking in the details while drawing. The eyes take in the details and the hand draws them. We have done this one other time before, to me, I’m not sure I like it that much as I am not the best drawer, but I guess it came out pretty well. The materials we used were Graphic 1 pens and small amounts of watercolour. If any of you were attempting to do this fast/slow drawing, a word of advice when I said slow about the contour line, I really mean slow, if you don’t you really won’t catch the full detail of the object you are drawing. What I found challenging was each line I had to draw, I’m not the best at straight lines and unfortunately, this rickshaw is full of them. I learned that not every drawing has to be done in a snap when I draw, I try to get it done as soon as possible and don’t even attempt taking a break, and this makes me crazy sometimes. This project gave me a chance to see that I can slow down every once in awhile.

Theme making for Mythbusters

Through the duration of this Ignite Week, I made 6 projects. One of them was a personal song that I will not be sharing, three of them were potential themes for my friend in the Mythbusters (Please check out the Mythbusters if you haven’t already done so) [Note: Only #3 out of the three theme songs was used]. The last two projects were kind of like voiceovers of one of my favourite songs. The first one had the original artist and I singing, the second one was just me singing with the music.

The Mythbusters themes were only a combination loops and some piano notes I programmed. I had some trouble with these due to the loops sometimes not matching up, making it a lot more difficult. Eventually, I got all three of them done but 1 and 3 are the best.

During our filming we had a few problems with the camera and some of the importing, but we fixed it quickly. Something I liked about this whole process was all the mistakes we made, as it was time consuming, it was also hilarious. Something I disliked was the camera, the camera overall was very confusing considering it was not like normal video camera. Overall I had a great time, and learned a bit more about acting throughout this film, such as: not looking at the camera.

Wenyu River

On April 16 2016 we watch as the 7th grade Futures Academy left the Wenyu river, there were signs of relief on their faces. The Futures Academy were testing the quality of a tributary of the Wenyu with their water collecting machines, using bamboo sticks and old jars. The river itself was very smelly and as the facilitators (the teachers) said; ‘Not safe to touch.’ Fall in, and you might just end up in a hospital, described how polluted the water actually was.

The 7th grade FA went with the local school, The Niu Lan Shan. The Niu Lan Shan school mostly speaks Chinese but they also speak some English. All the seventh graders worked in groups of four to make their water collecting machines.

“Well I think there are multiple reasons, but the main reason was because it was next to a bridge so people were driving and they were throwing trash off the bridge and into the water. There is an apartment complex next to it so people could be like throwing out trash and it could be being blown into the river.” Remarked Alex; one of the students collecting trash

It was almost scary how dirty the river was. To put more explanation into Alex’s reasoning; the facilitators, Alex, and other students of FA had a theory that the apartments across from the river were the cause of the sewage. Another theory was the roads. Everyday trash gets blown into the road then blown into the river, or people throw their trash out the window and directly into the river.

There were also plants growing inside the river that have seemingly adapted to the dirty water. If you looked at the water, there were very little signs that the river was moving or able to support life. All the fish in the river appear to be dead and it is truly sad how much of the river is polluted with garbage and sewage. The first time the students went, the river didn’t seem to be moving at all, apparently the second time they went it was moving slightly faster, but this concludes how much garbage is in the river; blocking it up, making it unable to move.

This is why we need to do something about it, we need to stop throwing trash and make our rivers clean again, for the sake of the fish, the people, and the aquatic plant life that all need this water to survive.

Independent Reading Bingo

Today I will be comparing my surroundings to the settings in Allegiant

One of the settings in Allegiant was the city of Chicago. Here in Beijing it feels enclosed (to me), all the buildings, the inner-city rings, etc. Chicago is basically the same but Beijing doesn’t have walls surrounding the whole city.

Another setting was the field in which they were going to the Bureau. it was plain with dead grass and a river. This setting specifically reminded me of the Chaobai river; plain, kinda dry with dead plants, then a river.

Lastly the Bureau. The Bureau reminds me of the futures academy space, due to all sections and places that have their own use.

Independent reading bingo #2

Today I am making a song based off the theme of the book. This song is also focusing on the antagonists of the story

The darkness falls over the faction less people.

They are tired of the famine, the disease, and rot.

They hunger for the power that they never got.

They can’t help but wonder why they are mistreated.

But then they have realized they were always defeated.

So they take control.

They try to stop the invading factions.

To stop the Allegiant

And take back their home

They know they can’t

But they will always try

Because they are the faction less

And they will never die

Description: I chose to create a playlist for my book ‘Allegiant’ By Veronica Roth

  1. What I’ve done By Linkin Park. The reason I chose this song was because, in the book Four makes lots of mistakes and regrets all of them very much.
  2. Pain By Three Days Grace. The reason for this song is because, Four (Or Tobias) seems to like going into his own fearscape. From what I’m reading, he likes bringing back old painful memories.
  3. My Demons By Starset. This song relates to the reason above, because the memories of his past seem to; as the song states, ‘You make everything okay.’ I think this relates to his inner struggle of getting over the past, but his past is what keeps him sane.
  4. War of Change By Thousand Foot Krutch. I think this applies to all of the group (Tobias, Tris, Uriah, Christina, Cara, Peter, Caleb) because the group had to change the way they live, no factions, no work, etc. They don’t know how to deal with this change all of a sudden brought upon them.
  5. Numb By Linkin Park. Tris is trying to make Tobias be proud of his genetics, and stop thinking the Bureau is trying to denounce  the genetically damaged indirectly.

My One day Project

My project was about my experiences in other countries with seeing people in need, these were my opinions in every place I’ve lived in. The link below describes what I thought about the different countries.
