The poem represents the narrator is having conflict with the bass. While the narrator was on the canoe with Sheila Mant. The narrator was committed to catching the bass during rising action. The poem also presents a situation in which the character is struggling. He was very eager to catch the bass. He demonstrates the determination and perseverance. This piece of literature also illustrates how a story makes the protagonist to make a decision. He was forced to cut the fishing when he struggled to bring the fish up on shore and choose between Sheila Mant or the Bass. Never the less I think it was unfortunate that he had to leave his passion behind for Sheila.
