Science Design Project #3

My project went through a few iterations before its final form. Originally I wanted to have a 3d printed case holding the wiring for aesthetic appeal but due to time constraints, I was unable. My project was simple in concept but difficult still, there were several problems with the copper wire I had at my disposal.  The wire I was using was coated with rubber and in order to use the needed amount I had to strip it. This took a considerable amount of time and the wire ended up being far too thick to be used in the proper way. I then found the proper wire which sped the process up significantly since it wasn’t coated. The actual process of the design required 2 coils of copper wire both of which consisted 30 loops all the while making sure to leave three prongs open for the eventual wiring. I achieved this by wrapping the copper wire around a glue container.

At this Point, I had the two coils so I now had to construct the circuit. I worked with one of the teachers and we created a blueprint that demonstrates the energy flow throughout the circuit.

I had to connect a 2n2222 transistor to a resistor. At this point, it was a matter of wiring and soldering. I had to connect the resistor to the middle prong of the transistor then connect the middle and far right prongs from the copper wire coil to those. Then, I had to connect the far left prong of the copper wire to the positively charged wire in the USB power connector. Finally, I had to connect the negatively charged wire for the USB power cable to the last remaining prong on the transistor. Now the circuit was completed.

This was a much more efficient improvement than my original design which entailed the connection of the wires to be done without soldering. Originally I tried to just wrap the wires together but that proved to not be as successful as soldering.
