Question: Paraphrase the ending of The Giver. What ‘s your interpretation? Do you like this ending? Why or why not? What alternative ending might you prefer?
Answer: In the end, Jonas learns what real freedom is. He learns that a freedom can be also hungers and fears that are really hard to overcome. Since his memories about the community and the others faded, his own memories are still in his mind which he could be joyful with. I like the ending because it sums up his journey and tells the reader what Jonas learned and how he reflects on that. I might prefer a ending that questions the reader whats going to happen next. For example, Jonas going on another journey about finding his own identity.
