The book “A Cage of Butterflies” by Brian Caswell introduces multiple different characters, with a lot of interesting characteristics. But, I am just going to focus on one, Myriam. Myriam has a lot of interesting and important characteristics: she is smart, loving, and creative. You can see this continuously throughout the book.
Firstly, she is a very loving person, she even went out of her way to save little Ricardo from his dangerous encounter from the drugs that were injected into him by the monster Larsen. When she went into Ricardo’s head she could have easily died and she could have just as easily left Ricardo to die but she didn’t. Myriam’s loving and caring personality is shown throughout the rest of the babies. After they were joined together and they all stayed behind the shield an era of sharing started. A level of bonding that no one could even conceptualize. You can see this from” “
Secondly, Myriam is one of the smartest if not the smartest person in the entire world. You can see this by her amazing feats like memorizing multiple scores of music. She can meticulously create and solve problems on the spot even some problems that have stumped mathematicians for years. She has been able to outsmart even Larsen who is the head scientist and the director of this entire operation on the Babies as well as the kids in the farmhouse. At the end of the book, the well-formulated plan that Myriam had plotted had fooled Larsen and had ended up taking everything that he loved away from him for the horrible and unforgivable things that he did to the babies.
Lastly, Myriam has a very creative brain to which extent she even ends up confusing Larsen as well as Macintyre. She comes up with such elaborate plans and thinks so abstractly that no one has the brain power to match. You can see this when Myriam tells everyone to give Larsen a small but misleading clue. Then she gave Larsen another clue which led him to another direction so he had to choose while he was the thing that over it gave both the babies and the kids in the think tank to come up with another plan to escape the “Farm”
So to conclude, Myriam is one of the smartest, kindest, and most creative and cunning people in this book. While there are multiple eccentric and interesting characters in this book. Myriam one of the main characters I think is the most eccentric one.
