The relationship between consumption and sustainability is heavily impacted on by our choices on what to consume, and therefor what is produced, distributed, and disposed of. We can make a sustainable change by being more conscious of our choices in consumption, like intentionally buying zero packaging products and not choosing the option of plastic. By doing this, we can reduce the about of plastic in our ecosystems and help everyone on the plastic lifecycle line, by stopping oil extraction, helping factory workers, and many more things.
Some important ideas people took away from my project are to use less plastic, reduce, and that recycling doesn’t actually really help. Some of them were confused by the story line ending, because it was fictional. I was able to change their perspectives on buying things by alerting them about the harms of plastic and reminding them to be more self aware on their consumption process. They learned about how plastic doesn’t decompose for a really long time, and how because of this thrash will pile up endlessly before even a small portion of it can start to break down. A thing I would do differently next time is that I wouldn’t use animation, because it takes too long and its not really worth it’s time and effort spent. The relationship between consumption an sustainability is kind of like the saying “you reap what you sow” and that disposal plays a huge part, in the means that however you dispose of the products you consume will eventually impact you on some scale. It may not be direct, and it may not be a huge impact, but it will make an impact. Whether its from factory workers who decided to burn houses near you down in a riot protest from their unjust pay and conditions, or from when you go on vacation and you see a fish being choked by an old piece of litter- perhaps even the one that you carelessly threw on the ground a few days ago. My point is that in the relationship between consumption and sustainability, your choice in disposal will make one hell of an impact on sustainability, even when such companies as pacific amore promotes it, the consumer will still make the final judgement call. We can make a sustainable change by doing exactly just that, making a judgement call on what to buy by thinking of how it will impact this world.
