Express it: Create and improve

Looking at my first and second skit, I noticed that our two groups connections worked. One of the biggest challenges was to make an interesting and fun piece, while still staying true to the story. Our original idea was abut muffins, to make it more comedy based. We showed it to Mrs. Northcott and  Ms. Difalco and based on their feed back, we decided we had to make everything a tad more serious.

Express it: final blog post

For this Ignite week project, I choose  Collaboration area because I wanted to be able to work with other people well and also help my peers. I thought I grew in this area because I was able to listen to other ideas, but I also added my own ideas at the same time. One example of how I used collaboration this week, was that we were able to combine our own skit with another groups part.

Looking back on this project, I learned a lot of different fighting techniques. Knowing what I know now, I would remember my lines better because I kind of messed it up on the show. The mistake I learned from the most was the one where we went away the real play. One skill I think I can use in the future is how to prepare to a fight scene. If I will do fight scenes in the future I will definitely use some of the tricks I used. A thing I am proud of in the show is one kick that I think felt really real.

Express it: Define and inquire

My audience is other students and parents. What we are trying to do, is to combine Shakespeare’s form of insults with stage combat, to create a fight sequence. We are to create a fight scene that is from the world of Romeo and Juliet where we divide the group in to the two households that are enemies. I was inspired by the combat part of bard and brawl. I wanted to learn some fighting techniques. I hope to be able to beat my sister in a fight. However, I think it  might be difficult to all work together to make a fight scene because everybody wants to do something important and every one has their own idea  that they want to incorporate in the piece. We will be using our voice a lot during the fight scenes to get people to understand why we are fighting, or just to throw some insults. I have chosen to work on being a good collaborator. We are going to work in groups, so I will try to share and listen to ideas from others, as well developing my own.

Develop and Plan: Express it

Here’s my plan for this week:

To think my project through, we decided to make our fight scene based on comedy. They are starting fighting over someone stealing cupcakes. The story is based on the two households in Romeo and Juliet. I am a Montague, While I am fighting capitalist. The fight ends with everybody dying except for me While making the skit, I realised, That we have to make sure that we have our back turned to the audience so they can’t see our napping.

One day: My Rock climbing experience

For One day I was doing Rock climbing. We were inquiring to get a poster about safety when doing rock climbing. My group and I decided to use the ABCDEF (Attachment, Buckles, Carrabeaner, Device, Everything, Fun). Everybody in our group had one letter. We also had to cover knots, so some people did that. We also decided to write and draw for hand. I think I drew well when we were making the poster. So we made two posters divided into four sections. I have learned have to do a dyno. It was really challenging in one part of the wall where I have to climb upside down. I think one day is really important because it gives you a chance to do something  that you really like doing and it also gives you a chance to learn more about a thing or theme you really like doing.

Blog #4 January Field study

Right now everything is dead in the forrest and by the lake. This is very different than from the

start of the year. But it is basically the same from last time. I wonder if it will be any insects to next time. I am guessing that it won’t be any insects, because it will still be cold and winter.

design one

Our team constructed the first design using sticks, taip, strings and a trash bag. Multiple drops took place and we noticed that it was dropping slowly and nicely.

In order to improve our design, we paid attention to area where it failed. The following “FAILS” happened during the drop: It did not land accurately

Some things also went well. Big successes include reducing the force with 7 newtons.

For our next design, we would like to reduce the force by maybe 5 newtons.

In Project Collisions, I am creating a system to deliver video games by drones. The drone will release the package from a height up to 10 meters and my job as an engineer is to develop a solution so that the package is protected in its fall. For Drop 0, a package with the dimensions of  10.7 X 13. 6 cm was dropped from a height of 5 meters. To the right is a photograph of the package:

The package will hold video games. Inside, items are organized like this:

The purpose of Drop 0 is to get baseline data about our package. The group developed a testing procedure so that we can be consistent on how data is collected throughout the design cycle.

During the drops, I noticed that the package was not going to

hit on point. I also noticed how fast the package was dropping.

The following data was collected:

A force plate at the bottom of the drop was used to collect data on the impact force of the package. Our group was kind of successful. we did not hit exactly the center but we were close enough. This is something we have to work on. As a project metric for accuracy, we want our project to hit exactly the target, which means we have to get 3 inches closer.

The average force on impact was 172 N. As a project metric, our group has decided to try and reduce the force impact.

Our team has decided that the three most important criteria to design towards is that it is NO damage to the package. Below, each metric is described and the goals were determined by data from Drop 0:

  • Soft ladning: Reduce the force impact by 86 N
  • Accuracy: Get the package 3 inches closer to the target
  • water proof: pack the package into something water proof

Our group is now building the first prototype. I hope that the next package will do better than drop 0

Blog #1: Egg drop

On Monday, January 7, I began Project Collisions with an egg drop. This design challenge was to drop a raw egg from a height of 5 meters without breaking it. A material list with items to purchase was provided.  My first design was 4 balloons tied to a paper wrapping around the egg. Then, working in a group, we decided to keep the four balloons and the paper wrappingfrom my initial design . But we decided to add weight to the paper wrapping.

As the egg was dropping, I thought that the egg would break, since it was going downwards at great speed. Our design was unsuccessful because, the egg did break. the balloons did not hold the paper and egg floating in the air. That is why it dropped so fast. Next time, I would use a parachute in stead and focus mor on keeping things light instead of heavy. Project Collisions is using the idea of drone delivery.

During my research, I discovered that people are already using drones to deliver blood to hospitals. Through this project, I hope to learn how to drop something safely.
