Patricia and the Bad Day at School

For Ignite week, me and my partner Sienna created a children’s book. We created a book for kindergarteners that had the moral of kindness and accepting. Some of the successes that we had were that our idea was solid from the start to the finish. We had decided to make a book on kindness on the first day, because many times kindergarteners might be mean to each other, but they don’t realize this and think that it might be funny. Another success that we had was that we made a storyboard and a draft of our book pretty quickly. I think that without the storyboard, we would not have been able to do anything, because the storyboard had many things that was needed, like the plot and how each page would go as well as other things. One of the challenges that we had was how the character would look like. We both had different opinions with this, and we decided to draw it out. The character that was at the start of the book looked nothing like the character at the end of the book. We argued a little bit about what the character should look like and where the character should be, but then we decided that it would be much easier to do it digitally because the character would look the exact same. Another challenge was that the moral of the story that we think might not be what the little kids think it means. I think that we had to make many adjustments to the book so that little kids could interpret it. I grew in the L21 focus area Creativity, because I had to learn how to pay attention (quite a lot of attention) to detail and also how to use Adobe Photo Shop. The paying attention was something that I learned to do so that the photos look nice, because if the photo’s had rough cuts or things, then the photo would not look professional or creative. At the start of the week, I watched as Sienna did cropped a photo to look perfect. When it was mostly perfect, I said why not leave it because it looks really nice. She said that it had to be perfect, because our book had to look really good. At the end of the week I was cropping something and saw what she meant, because if it wasn’t perfect then I would be in trouble. Also, Photo Shop took a lot of attention and creativity, because I had to think of how to get rid of some clouds that were floating on people in my picture. I decided that to get rid of them I would have to paint over it with the same color as the clothes that the person was wearing. This really helped my creative skills because it made me think of how I could create a picture in a creative way, and how to use Photo Shop. The skill that I learned, Creativity (better) and how to use Photo Shop can be used in the future, because I can use it in different ways, like if I went on and created a trailer of something, I would need to maybe Photo Shop something to make the trailer better. I can use creativity because a creative mind can be useful in many different things, because it means that I can make something with many different components. I think that creativity is something that you need to have for life or you might not succeed in goals that you want to have. I think that our book is pretty creative, so I think that we achieved our goal.

Patricia and Her Bad Day at School

My partner and I Oscar created a children’s book about a girl going to her first day at school. She tries to make jokes about people because she thinks that that is how she would make friends. Some of our successes were making the storyline and making up the charters. Even though this project was fun there were also some challenges. I struggled in Photoshop, it was my first time I ever used Photoshop. It was confusing to edit all of the pages of the book. In my L21 skills, I think that I improved on my creativity side. Some of the evidence that showed my creativity is first is trying to make the characters look like they are in the story, photoshopping them to make them fit into the photo. Seconded is trying to put the flashback of the personal thoughts. During this project, I learned mostly how to Photoshop and how to make kids book interesting and fun to read. This was a very important part because making sure the kids were interested in the book was one very crucial part of our book.
