High School Principal’s Coffee

November 21st, 2017 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Dear Parents,

School is in full swing and students are focussed on growing and improving as the semester progresses.  Hopefully you have seen assessment feedback on PowerSchool that shows how Grade 9 and 10 students are being assessed on standards for their courses.  Ask your son’s and daughter’s to share some of the feedback they have received on the rubrics for their assignments.  All of these are part of our Standards Based Grading and Reporting change in the High School.

Our counselors have been busy working with students on a wide range of processes this semester. Grade 12 students are finalizing college and university application plans.  Grade 9 students have been working on Mindfulness and counselors are helping to enrich our mentoring program. We are offering a wide range of topics through mentoring that help support students find life/school balance and equip them for decision making in the upcoming years.

This Thursday November 23rd we will be hosting a Principal’s Coffee at 8:30 am to 10:00 am in the Multi-Purpose Room.  The topics covered will be: Child Protection at ISB, IB Updates, counseling work with students, and Standards Based Grading and Reporting updates. We have done a lot of work this month collecting feedback on our new reporting system for next school year and we want to share that with you.  If you are unable to make it to the coffee we will record the presentation for you to see online.

Thanks for all your active support of the high school and your students so far this semester. It is always reassuring to meet so many parents engaging in learning about our school.  We can’t educate your children without your support and engagement.

We hope to see you on Thursday!

Regards,

David Munro

High School Principal
