MS Reminders

We are looking forward to seeing our Middle School Parents next week at Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 23 and 24.  The purpose of conferences at this time of year is for teachers and parents to form a stronger partnership to help each child.  Academic performance may be part of the conversation, but it may be even more important to discuss a student’s work habits, attitudes toward class, and level of engagement.  Some great questions for parents to ask:

  • How can I help my child at home to be more successful in this class?
  • Does my child work well with other students?
  • Does my child actively get help from the teacher when needed?
  • Is my child showing genuine interest in the subject matter?
  • How can I contact the teacher if I have more questions?

Parenting Class

Last week a large group of parents met with our counselors and technology specialists to learn more about Parenting in the Digital Age.  This was the first in a series of workshops for parents.  The workshops are designed to give parents tools and strategies for addressing the needs and wants of adolescents.  Parents get to hear quality advice, ask questions, and discuss ideas with other parents in the community.  Please come to our next session on October 31, 8:45-9:45, in the GlassBox classroom, located on the 2nd floor directly over the ISB Main Entrance.  Every session is different, with new topics each time.  All Middle School parents are encouraged to attend!

No Cut Policy

The ISB MS sports program has a no- cut policy but not everyone can make the final tournament. We tell all parents this at the start of the year.  This can very hard for the students and also the coaches as well.  Please know that if your child does not make the final tournament team, a lot of thought and observation has been given by the coaches in looking at the whole season of play.  My hope is that whether your child makes the final tournament team or not, they were able to learn and enjoy the whole season.

Hiring New Teachers for ISB

Did you know that the leaders at ISB have already begun the process of recruiting new teachers for next year?  We see this as one of our most important roles as school leaders, so we start early and search for the best teachers from around the world.  Much of our searching is done online, but we also send school leaders to major job fairs around the world.  This year we are likely to attend fairs in Dubai, Melbourne, Bangkok, London, and Boston.  We are also open to referrals, so if you know a great teacher somewhere in the world, please direct them to our website, where we list open positions.  Our goal is to hire top teachers who will embrace the culture and community of ISB and “cultivate inspirational and creative opportunities to develop each student’s unique potential.” (quote from the ISB Mission)
