New Murals and Principal’s List for October 18

Dear Students, Teachers, and Parents

This week we have had the pleasure of hosting a guest artist named Mike Johnston who visiting from Texas.  Mike, also known by his artist name “truth,” specializes in large murals.  He has worked with Middle School students  and our own Mr. Steve Northcott to paint two amazing murals in our third floor lounge areas.  Stop by to see them when you come for Parent Teacher conferences next week!

It’s time again to recognize a number of students who have demonstrated one or more of ISB’s core values in a noteworthy manner in the last few weeks.  The following students were identified by their teachers for leading the school by example in the areas of Global Mindedness, Creativity, Integrity, Balance, Respect, or Service.  I’d like to thank them all for contributing positively to our Middle School community of learners!

Dr. Hill, MS Principal

Grade 6
Lia Shayman demonstrated the core value of balance. One example was that she was prepared for Chinese class and caught up very smoothly with her effort, after her Musical Theatre Camp.
Larry Kong is a role model for many of his peers in PE. He consistenly comes to class organized, with the intention to learn and he is someone who is willing to help others feel included in any activity. Larry also takes initiative to assist with setting up and putting away equipment. He is an invaluble member of the ISB community and his efforts do not go unoticed.
Jacob Sun always works with Integrity in every game and activity we play in Chinese class.  He is respectful of his peers and himself in every class. Well done Jacob!
Allan Wang always carries a smile on his face, and genuine interest in discussions. He has a keen interest in learning and the well being for others. Well done Allan!
Meredith Ni is a considerate, thoughtful classmate who consistently offers to help others and tries her best both inside and outside the classroom.
Thank you to Alex Park for being an considerate, active participant in class as well as during the Mentoring Trip. Alex is always willing to help others, whether they need help understanding an assignment, figuring out how to do something on the computer, or just need a partner for an activity.
Congratulations to Rocky Sharipov for always trying his best and being a good friend and classmate. Rocky asks for and listens to others’ opinions during discussions, he actively participates in class activities, and his energy and consideration for others is much appreciated!
Way to go, YiFan! YiFan Fan is new to ISB and he is getting used to school life here; however, he has settled in well. His kind, generous, and friendly nature are appreciated by us all.
Grade 7
Eric Ge has demonstrated an overwhelming sense of empathy, caring and dedication to his peers as he worked to ensure that all his classmates become an integral part of our class.
Richard Park is constantly showing the ISB core values, integrity and respect, during Spanish classes, he has always been very honest and loyal with his friends.
Christine Huang is consistently mindful of others and their needs.  She is a polite, respectful and conscientious friend and classmate.
Daniel Park has shown exemplary leadership, service and respect for his classmates as he excelled in the setting of Socratic Seminars and other types of work in Humanities encouraging and supporting his peers.
Emily Parker ran for student government in our classroom and showed much in the way of initiative and willingness to serve! Great job!
Ryan Hinton ran for student government in our classroom and showed much in the way of initiative and willingness to serve! Great job!
Tiffany Zong ran for student government in our classroom and showed much in the way of initiative and willingness to serve! Great job!
Elizabeth Zhao volunteered to become on of 7-4’s STUCO representatives and this showed a strong desire to be of service to her classmates. She is commended for making a speech and agreeing to support the STUCO reps as well as she can.
Westley Lau volunteered to become one of 7-4’s STUCO representatives and this showed a strong desire to be of service to his classmates. He is commended for making a speech and agreeing to to be our class’ STUCO rep and serve to the best of his ability.
Angel Wang volunteered to become one of 7-4’s STUCO representatives and this showed a strong desire to be of service to his classmates. She is commended for making a speech and agreeing to to be our class’ STUCO rep and serve to the best of her ability.
Maggie Huang works hard to turn in her best work, cooperates well in group activities and is always willing to reach out to her classmates. She also helped to write a good title for Chinese class display area with her beautiful Calligraphy.
Shawn Wong consistently shows respect for other students and adults through his daily actions. He is a great example of a student who balance work and fun; he is an awesome leader in class and in his reading team. He models good behavior and responsibility.
Aaron Hou is a fantastic student. He completes all his work with pride, he is meticulous and creative and always encourage other students in class. He is very talented in languages and he demonstrates both strong writing and speaking skills. Aaron is also a leader and an inspirational student, he has helped his peers on many occasions and always goes the extra mile!
Grade 8
Alice Xu demonstrates the core value of service when she frequently volunteered to read the MS announcement in her homeroom. In addition, she also wants to serve her peers by running for Student Council.
Erick Chen demonstrated the core value of service when he wanted to serve his peers by running for Student Council.
Emma Wang always demonstrates the core value of respect in class and she is a role model for her peers. She shows respect to academic expectations by working diligently to complete her task to her best ability, and she shows respect to her classmates by being considerate and cooperative.
Deniz Guven demonstrates our core values of integrity, respect, and balance every day. She works hard to balance her diverse extra curricular activities and she stands up for what she believes in. We are lucky to have Deniz as a role model in our Middle School.
Christina Ma is a deep thinking and creative soul who utilizes her skills in art to share insightful ideas about herself, the world, and others. We appreciate the effort and contribution that Christina has given in various areas of our mentoring class.
Bill Deng demonstrates respect for others and is consistently engaged in class discussions. He works hard to turn in his best work, cooperates well in group activities and is always willing to reach out to his classmates.
Chris Friis has willingly taken on his duty to serve by leading the way with his  support of Habitat for Humanity nd MS STUCO.
Daniel Murray is super proactive seeking out missed work and assignment due to absence. He was on top of his work, projects, and responsibilities without having to be asked! Keep it up!
Oscar Hamada is super busy with Honk Jr., but is able to maintain balance! He is on top of his school work, rocked it in Ignite Week, busy with sports, and is positively contributing to classes and the school environment everyday. Great job!
Britney Lu is doing a great job of balancing all of her responsibilities ranging from Ignite Week, sports, drama and academic commitments. With so much on her plate, she continues to work hard, have fun, and find time for herself. Well done, Britney!
Michael Atsuya was super helpful during our Ignite Week. He displayed great leadership skills and care for his peers during our travels around Beijing on the Metro.
Harrison Taylor has been a huge help in my role playing enrichment.  He is helping kids learn how to play the game by being creative and setting a good example.  He is very helpful and patient with the kids who are new to the game and he has also helped teach the class when I have been gone.

Scarlett O’Keefe volunteered to represent out homeroom, 8-6, as the STUCO representative and has been consistently enthusiastic and sincere in her duties in that position so far, warranting recognition for Service, Balance, and Global Mindedness, on top of being a great general presence in the classroom!
