Capturing Village Life in Less Than an Hour

For the OneDay of 2018, I chose to do photography. This is because when I take photos, I feel like it’s just another way of expressing who I am and what I see through a unique and unspoken way. Therefore, this year, I spent two hours in a village and besides a river to capture shots of life and memories. From this experience, I have learned that taking good pictures take patience, angles, and the right timing. You just have to go for it and capture the moment.

Here are some of my photos.

Overall, it was a very successful project done. Several shots from the village became my favorites and being able to experience and capture village life was something different to anything I had done in the past. If I could do it again, I would take more photos so I would have a variety of photos to choose from. But if I could choose, I would do it all over again.

ONE DAY 2017 Pity Party Music Video Karen Han

Goal: Our goal was to create a music video, possibly including a dance routine.

What I learned: I learned a lot about what it takes to make a music video. It takes great commitment and cooperation to make something so special. I also learned about being an actress, having to retake a scene several times, including or cutting some of the scenes, and learning to be positive throughout the process. I learned about editing. Editing was a big part of our video, from muting the video to choosing the best filter, cutting or making it slower so it would fit to the beat. Lastly, I learned about friendship. I spent the entire day making something so unique with my best friend. We thought of ideas with each other, helping one another when times are hard, and sticking with each other no matter what. This was indeed an incredibly experience.

What went well: Although there were a few complications throughout the process, there were many things that went well. The filming and preparation process went pretty smooth. Once we started, we got it through pretty quickly. The editing process was also easy once we got the hang of it.

What I would do differently if I am able to do it again: I would probably think it through a little better. We wasted some time on things that could’ve done beforehand. (setting, clothing etc.)

Random Acts of Kindness

Kindness opens doors that were thought to be closed, forever. Our school has everything, courage, perseverance, brains and so on. But kindness is one extremely important quality that is decreasing throughout campus. Therefore, we got the idea of increasing kindness through art. We drew posters and filled them with kindness. Quotes of encouragement and creative arts are posted around the school and compliments and kindness will make your day. We also added strips of compliments to the posters to encourage more kindness. Lots of people already took compliments, which means that the posters were a success. Improving kindness with art throughout school really made one day special.
