Eric‘s Group and the Game

Today is one day. Me and my group is working on a roll playing game. What is a roll playing game you might (not) ask, a roll playing game is a game that you make actions for the character you chose. Me and Bill is in charge of the story plot, Leon did the map and buildings, Francis is setting the boss and Austin created the characters. The game is called the mystery island(I do not like this name).  The Map on the bottom is the map we are using. At first we was going to draw the map our selfs, but none of us has any art skills so we found a  picture on line and we changed the Chinese name in to english names. The screenshot  is the rough draft  of the story plot, me and Bill was doing that. All the monsters is the bosses in different land scape and it is found by the group. The picture that has two students in it is me and Austin, we were working on the characters. that is what we did in ONEday.

Medieval Secrets

My Medieval Game:

For OneDay, I chose to make a card game/mafia. It is about a crime scene type of game. The game is based on  the Medieval times.

I work on my project for 5 hours straight, making boxes for my game and printing cards over and over again so I can get a perfect size for my game.

I  started the day (One day) by my cards. I printed my cards with black and white, then I found out that the card is the perfect size. So I printed it with colour in normal paper, Mr. Mar told me that there is thick paper you can print out with. The start of the day I wasted a lot of paper and credit on the cards.

After I finished my cards, I stared with my rulebook and got some feedback from Mr. Mar.

I started making box for my game. I spend about 2 hours to make the box and 40 minutes to stick paper on the box so it will be fancier.

Throughout the day, I learnt a lot and had a lot of fun cutting and gluing the box for my game.

I chose Medieval Secrets to be my game since my first idea was totally destroyed.

And it is the first thing to pop up at my head.

Hearthstone (card game version)

I made Hearthstone in card game version.   Players: 2 ~3

How to play:

1. You have to roll a dice. If you get bigger number than your opponent you start first.

2. If you start first you take 3cards but if you start later than your opponent you take 4cards and a coin. If you use the coin you get ONE more mana(you can only use the coin once when you want to

3. You can deal a card(the cards mana gage can not go over the mana you have right now)

4. You have to kill the boss to win

  1. Biggest challenge?

Cutting the cards out

  1. Biggest success?

We finished it!!!!! Yay!!

  1. What I learned…

I learned that we should cooperate to make things done when we are in a group(don’t just play Hearthstone.)

  1. Future steps…

Make 4+ player game (not age)

The Math Test that You Just Can’t Pass

We know that quite a couple of us like math, we like to compete in math, and we always do math tests that we complete in the end.
Can’t there be a math test that you just can’t pass? Where you only get further but it gets too hard and you eventually lose?
That’s what inspired me to make the “Impossible Math Challenge”

I decided to start programming it with a programming language called PYTHON, it is widely used to create games, and it is pretty straightforward.

However, I was overly ambitious about python, the bundle that I was using (Pygame 1.5) had an error on Mac that causes the new “blitted” image to crash. I had 600 lines written already, but I couldn’t manage to debug it.

Error: The error is due to the function called in lines 60-67, because it is not able to execute functions stored within functions or Game loops, in this case, the Main Loop. However I couldn’t find a way across because when I put the function outside of the game loop it is not able to execute within when it has to decide where my mouse clicked by importing the values (mousex, mousey) and since those values aren’t called with Global, Therefore (to me) I didn’t find a way to debug this, well at least for the duration of the day.

Before I gave up, Ms. Mai came and recommended me to do the

So I got started, collected some Kahoot Quiz Music, and started programming.

I made a simple Starting Prompt Module, with a fixed delay between the words (Left)

The Stage was attached to the main workflow by Functions, thus keeping the program non-reliant on the start button

The next problem I met was the fact that you can’t shut off a command that is running, unless you shut off the whole sprite’s current loops or functions. This issue caused me to not be able to shut off the player answering the question when the timer is out. Thus I created a double lock system (Right) and concepts are, if the time is up before the question loads, the question stops, if the player did not finish the question when the time stopped, the player’s answer would not count. An example of the system in use (Middle):

That’s Basically all of my program, It is not fully complete at this point as the questions are not fully added.

There is a chance of Extending this project and completing it in the future

We have been successful throughout the game making progress. The game is about five people trying to survive at an island with magic story and monsters. Multiple choices are given to the players that determine the ending of the story. This project will benefit me with lots of group work, will also involve luck in combat

Hearthstone smaller ver.

My one day’s biggest challenge was of the finding a rule about the game we made. We made a game which was smaller than origin game, so it was hard to change the rule. Also, biggest success was that I finished that thing. What we learned is that it takes lots of time and it’s hard to make an even a small game. At future, I think we can make more card and make more like the original game.

Yesterday, we made the rule of games  and cut the cards for the game. I had the role of having the part of the design and the printing of the cards and the major event of the day was the cutting the cards it take us about 2~3 hours to do that. Actually my day was pretty hard and boring before finishing the cards. We didn’t expect that we will run out of card covers. The proud moment was after we finished all the cards and played once. It made me proud because it took us long to make the card and it means we did it. We learned that even a small game takes lots of time

The Cool Mystery Island

Title: Mystery Island

For one day, we made a role-playing game. We worked on how to finalize our project. We also gain really much experiences. We chose to work on a role playing game because I thought they were fun Explain your Goal / Game for today!-

Explain your role/s in the creation of the game (image of plan)

I did all of the combat data for the group (evidence?)

-I found picture for the monster character (evidence?)

-I give suggestions to help improve the character (old man, changing character so not as strong – be more specific Francis)

I will help to Finnish up the game (by doing what….?)

Bill’s Frantistic ONE DAY PROJECT

 OUR MAP

Today is one day.My project of one day is create game. We are working in a team. We decide to create a role-play game call mystery island.  We made a map, designed characters, monsters and some basic detail that the game need . The game have 6 part and you need to escape the island with your teammates.I am excited to play this game.

I chose this project because the other two project were rejected me. Also, I am passion for create a game and I can improve my imagination.

OUR PLAN

We chose to create a role-play game because we are interested about this type of the game. We made a plan. Everyone had their own job. My job is design the monster, map and internal buildings and made a plot.

We searched the map on the website and put some worlds. The game was really fun.

un when we test it.

“The Eagles” (Harry’s Racing Car)

Goal: My goal was to make the fastest car with only 7-8 materials.

Challenges & Solution: First I tried to make a triangular car with coke foam board, but the wheels kept on falling because I didn’t really stick it properly so I tried to make another prototype which is called “The Eagles” and it broke too because it was too big and messy. It kept on falling off the rollercoaster track so it was pretty annoying. So I tried to add wings to possibly “fly” but it didn’t work out. So I tried to make another prototype that was much lighter and smaller so I could get a faster acceleration. It was fast at first but it fell off the roller coaster track and it crashed. So for next time, I can make the car a little bigger and add more mass which will help me get more speed

Terrarium Building

I chose terrarium building because I am really interested in plant.  Before we started making our terrarium we made a sketch.

Then we made our terrariums.   After that we made a iBook which is down bellow.  The iBook shows you how to make your own terrariums.

On one day I learned how to make my own terrarium and how to take care of it.  If I was to so this again I would take the labels off the jars.
