Explain My Thinking:
I chose this paragraph due to the overwhelming suspense which I felt while reading it. “I knew that he had been lying awake…had been since growing upon him.” (Poe 121) The depiction of this passage was portrayed in such a way that the reader could feel the emotions and thoughts of the protagonist. I tried to copy this, and elaborate in areas in my own way, while also excluding parts which didn’t seem relevant to the picture that was being drawn in the reader’s head.
The Rewrite in 3rd Person Omniscient:
Presently he heard a slight groan, and I knew it was the groan of mortal terror. It was a sheer beauty watching struggle, knowing that the fate of the old man was close to gone. The objects in the room shouted trying to warn him of the murderer that awaited his prey, but no, not a pin drop could be heard. He was up in bed, trying to comfort himself: “It is nothing but the wind in the chimney-it is only a mouse crossing the floor,” or “it is merely a cricket which has a made a single chirp.” It was frightening as death steadily approached him, step by step, wielding his scythe in both hands.” There was almost an eerie sadness in the room, as there was irritably tragic ending for the mortal soul.
