What do you know for sure, and how do you know it?

My name is Ashley Starobynski, and I am the middle child of 3 other siblings. I like to play volleyball, and I am afraid of starting IBDP because of all the challenges that come with it. I have a dog and a cat who are both very fluffy.

What do you know for sure, and how do you know it? One thing I know for sure is what I have experienced. Such as love, we all know love is an emotion, but how can you even know if it’s there. Well, the feels I get from being away from my siblings and friends for to long. I miss them. I want to be with them to laugh and enjoy the moments with them. I know I love them because of the feelings that occur when I’m around them or not around them. I know that I have been through a challenging volleyball game because I can feel the ache in my muscles and tiredness. I can feel the sweat on my skin, all signs of the though game. Another thing I know is what I want to do when I’m older. I know this because I think of wanting to work within medicine, having a pit-bull, being successful when I think of the future.

So I think how I know what I know is based on feelings and experiences. Because I know how I feel based on reactions to situations, such as wanting to be around someone I haven’t been for a while, I know that I miss them. I know when I want to do with my life based on what pops into my head when I think about the future.

I agree with you that you can know something based on your feelings and experiences. We obviously do perceive and recognize thing such as emotions like love. However, I do not agree with you that we can know the emotion “for sure”. As you said, our feeling of love and emotion continuously evolves, and I think that makes you unable to know love “for sure” as love is such an abstract term that can’t be defined in a single word or description. Some questions I have are related with how you perceive “love”. You have said that we know we love someone because we miss them. But if we are far away from our families and parents, and if we do not miss them just because we have other things to concentrate and focus on, does that necessarily mean that we do not love them?
