Margo was always the “cool girl” at school, she always had an edgy attitude towards other students. Margo loved mysteries since when she was a child, so she is usually adventurous. Due to her love of mysteries, Margo was famous for leaving home constantly, she even travelled with the circus for one week because they thought she had potential on the trapeze. Margo is cool and popular, but she is also very self-centred. Margo doesn’t really seem to care about anyone, even people who hang out with her. “That’s always seemed so ridiculous to me, that people would want to be around someone because they’re pretty. It’s like picking your breakfast cereals based on colour instead of taste.”(Green, 41). Margo always has her own opinion and rarely care about other ones. When others ask for Margo’s help, she doesn’t care at all. If Margo has problems, she expects people to help her.
Margo loves mysteries, so much that she became one. Margo left home constantly but she always left clues. She was always conflicted with herself, “It’s a paper town…all those paper people living in their paper houses, burning the future to stay warm…Everyone demented with the mania of owning things…I’ve lived here for eighteen years and I have never once in my life come across anyone who cares about anything that matters.” (Green, 63).
All in all, Margo Roth Spiegelman is cool, self-centred, and mysterious person. She is the popular girl at school, she doesn’t care about anyone, and she loves to run away from home.
