Lots of people see the same person and hear same information about the person but might think and judge the person differently. Like this situation, the book “The scar” written by An-Mei Hsu says a story about how aunt and popo sees An-mei’s mother as thoughtless person and An-mei seeing her mother as a person who needs to be worshiped.
In “The Scar”, we can see Nuyer as a thoughtless person from one perspective and person who is worshipped in other perspective. In the aunt and popo’s perspective, they saw Nuyer as a thoughtless person. Aunt said “Auntie said our mother was so thoughtless she had fled north in a big hurry, without taking the dowry furniture from her marriage to my father, without bringing her ten pairs of silver chopsticks, without paying respect to my father’s grave and those of our ancestors.” (Tan 2) This shows why aunt and popo was ashamed and didn’t liked Nuyer. This relates to the story by being the main conflict and solving them. In other hand, Nuyer is worshipped person. It wasn’t because she explained why she was chased out or begging for forgiveness. The narrator said that “Here is how I came to love my mother. How I saw her my own nature. What was beneath my skin. Inside my bones.”(4) This shows that Nuyer is a really loyal person for every person. Nuyer is a thoughtless person for some peoples but, other people think that Nuyer needs to be worshipped.
