Flying into Freedom


Enchanted Air: Two Cultures, Two Wings by Margarita Engle is a poetic book meant to relay the experiences of a mixed-blood Cuban American family between the 2 countries, America and Cuba, during the Cuban Revolution. The author deeply expresses how the protagonist feels about the revolution, and about the two countries. You can see her discover new things about herself and see her personality shapen into something new as she becomes more courageous and brave when she feels free.   1. I think your response is really thoughtful, like when you described her feelings in different places. Also, the poster is clear and easy to follow, you split the paper into two sections using the wings, and also labeled evidence and reasoning. I don’t really get why the second quote is related to the theme though. I have a connection to what I feel in two countries. When I’m in China, I feel like everything is just more welcoming; a language I know really well, and a familiar place that I lived in for 13 years. In comparison, I’m nervous when I’m out on the streets in America, even when it’s my nationality. So I think the main character of the book might have a stronger connection to Cuba.
