How does low self esteem effect the decisions you make for your body?

Self-esteem is very important in every single person. It shows what we think of ourselves and how confident we are in ourselves, too much is not good for you, but too little is even worse. Having low self-esteem truly affects the way you live your life, the way you see yourself, the way you treat yourself, and the decisions that you make. A common cause of low self-esteem is someone’s body, they don’t like themselves because of the way they look and are ashamed and embarrassed by it, and go through many techniques to change their body.

The first method some people use is smoking. Many people choose to smoke because not only does it give pleasure and relief to people, it also can increase your metabolic rate. That means that over time, you will start to lose weight just by smoking. Although that sounds like an easy plan to change yourself, there are far more consequences that are likely to happen when you smoke. Smoking very heavily damages your lungs and makes you more prone to cancer and other types of diseases, as well as it is easy to get addicted to.

The second unhealthy choice is Anorexia. People use this to restrict themselves from eating, and over time, will start to lose weight. Except, that by doing this, it is very hard to see the endpoint, you will always think you are overweight no matter what, it will cause you to go on massive strict food diets. All in all, this method is just very unhealthy for you and your body and will cause muscle loss and weakness and eventually lead to disease.

Next is cosmetic surgery. People use this to improve their own appearance and make themselves more comfortable with their body image. By doing cosmetic surgery, you change a feature that you don’t like, and even though it seems like an easy way to become more attractive, doing cosmetic surgery can lead to infections and emotional danger which can damage your self-esteem even more. The best way is to avoid this is simply accept who you really are.

Weight loss surgery is another type of surgery you can have performed on you to change your body. This method is used to just cut sections of fat from you or sometimes make your stomach smaller so you physically can’t eat as much. Doing this will also lead to weight loss but it could also very easily lead to eating disorders as well as infections.

Diet pills are also a common choice to lose weight. Diet pills are consumed to make you feel full, that way you won’t get hungry and eat things. This will lead to weight loss but also very unhealthy eating routines that could cause more cons than pros.  It can increase your heart rate and like many pills have side effects and can lead to dangerous outcomes if not used properly.

Fad diets are very fast weight loss methods. Fad diets are advertised everywhere stating that they can help you lose ten pounds in just one week. Usually by very unnaturally intense workouts as well as unnatural eating routines like cabbage soup for all 3 meals of the day. Fad diets are very unreliable to use because with this going on in your daily life, it can really change things. But also because after dieting is done, it is very easy to gain all of the weight back.

Lastly, people use anabolic steroids. Anabolic steroids are synthetic, or human-made, variations of the male sex hormone testosterone. The proper term for these compounds is anabolic-androgenic steroids. “Anabolic” refers to muscle building. Some common names for anabolic steroids are Gear, Juice, Roids, and Stackers. Health care providers can prescribe steroids to treat hormonal issues, such as delayed puberty. Steroids can also treat diseases that cause muscle loss, such as cancer and AIDS. But some athletes and bodybuilders misuse these drugs in an attempt to boost performance or improve their physical appearance. People who misuse anabolic steroids usually take them orally, inject them into muscles, or apply them to the skin as a gel or cream. These doses may be 10 to 100 times higher than doses prescribed to treat medical conditions.

Misuse of anabolic steroids might lead to negative mental effects, such as:

  • paranoid (extreme, unreasonable) jealousy
  • extreme irritability and aggression (“roid rage”)
  • delusions—false beliefs or ideas
  • impaired judgment
  • mania

Anabolic steroid misuse might lead to serious, even permanent, health problems such as:

  • kidney problems or failure
  • liver damage and tumors
  • enlarged heart, high blood pressure, and changes in blood cholesterol, all of which increase the risk of stroke and heart attack, even in young people
  • increased risk of blood clots

All of these risks are not worth the chance to look bigger and tougher when it can seriously harm you to a point of death.

All in all, these methods of weight loss are not recommended to teens. Unless you have a serious condition and need any of these as treatments and medication, you should not use these. All of these methods of weight loss have very serious risks that can harm you. It is best for everybody who is trying to lose weight just by going the hard route and have healthy and regular excersize plans. This is the best way to have very good results and very low risks of danger. As well as small simple diets, the only diets that cannot harm you is the diets that prevent you from consuming the things you dont need, like sports drinks, junk food, alcholhol .Everybody should know that excersize outweighs all of the other methods as it is the most reliable and honest way to change your body to your preference. It can create more self-esteem for you and potentially change many aspects of your mental and physical life.

My Digital Life-Health

My digital life composes of my phone and my laptop. My laptop is mainly for school academic purposes, I usually spend my time either doing homework, checking DX, checking my mail, or watching educational videos. My phone is usually used in my free time, the main apps I use are guitar tuner apps, Wechat, youtube, and my camera. My daily routine when I get home is to first finish my homework or any other priorities I have afterward is mainly free time. In my free time, I usually read, play guitar, and occasionally pass time by using my phone. I think one thing I could change to help my mental and physical health, is to stop using electronics before sleep. I keep my phone next to my bed at night because I have alarms in the morning, and I like to have noise in the background when I sleep. I think by keeping my phone further away and not having any noise, I can sleep better at night as well as have more energy in the morning.
