Explain how you would find the product of 28 x 74.
First you line up all the numbers under each other, then you multiply 4 by 28. After that you multiply 7 by 28 but put a zero in the ones place before you do anything. In the end you add up both of the answers and you get 2,072.
What was the best part of this unit? Explain
My favorite part of this unit was when we played “Polygon Capture” because when I as small I used to always play a game called memory where you had to match up 2 cards while all of them are flipped over and whoever has the most cards wins, Polygon Capture is very similar to this just with polygons and you have to find out which one has for example 1 right angle, 4 sides, 3 acute angles etc.
What was the most challenging part of this unit? Explain.
The most challenging part was the first test because I didn’t know some of the things Mr.Daw was giving us so it was pretty challenging and i wanted to do everything right so that Mr.Daw would be proud of me.
The Parting was about these two children who are the smartest in their class and live with their dads and uncle in their farm, but these children had never met their moms so one day Benji (the boy) got some weird texts on his phone and felt really homesick for some reason even though he was at home. When they inspected their burned down house, they found a super-8 movie which they watched and saw their moms but it was weird because their moms had tiny hips and giant heads with giant eyes and it was weird! Then they saw beings dad use the digger shove something circular in the pond and they were curious because their dads said not to go swimming in that pond so they went up to the pond and Benji used the digger and took something weird with flashing lights out of the pond so they inspected it and found it was some kind of alien device, they also found out that the symbols on his phone matched the device so Benji just walked right in and flew away.
This is a “to be continued story” which I don’t like because then if there isn’t a second book you will regret it your entire life.
My project on the Explorers Unit was about Charles Darwin because he always inspired me in working harder for ideas and of course i love nature and science so I like him.
A challenge for me was finding an explorer to work on because I didn’t know a lot of the explorers Mr.Daw gave us the list on. Another challenge was finding good information that wasn’t made up in any way because a lot of people write their opinion on him and then they put some fake stuff like he didn’t have children because he was so cruel or mean. But the real challenge was writing the write so that its perfect.
Some helpful hints I have for people who are doing this for the first time, try to find an explorer you know a little about like what he/she found or where he/she went. Another tip is that you should find an explorer that you can pronounce their name because then you feel safer in saying it.
Something I would do differently is not a lot because I was pretty happy with my presentation, but yeah I would take more time into it to get more information.
1. Explain how to multiply 28 * 74 in words. Do it so that someone who does not know how to multiply will learn from you.
First you multiply 4 by 28 then 7 times 28 but before u do anything put a zero when you do 7 *28 and put it in the ones place. After that you add those 2 together and BAM you have the answer
2. Look through your Math Journal for Unit 2.
What was something that you found really interesting?
There was nothing REALLY INTERESTING but some of the hard questions were the solving number stories (2-8).
What was something you found really challenging?
Some thing I found challenging was trying to find the maximum, minimum and the median when we were estimating our reaction time.
3. Why is organization so important when using a table to solve problems?
Because if you mix it up you could count something twice and would get the question wrong. So you should order it from smallest to biggest or biggest to smallest in your table
