I think design is the act of creating something, be it a physical object, digital drawing, or painting. The fact that we are free to create whatever we think of inspires me, as it constantly challenges me to think of new and creative things to do. I do not have any favorite design examples as I have a hard time staying attached to a specific design theme, mood or style. My favorite designers are Giorgetto Giugiaro and Felix Wankel. Giorgetto Giugiaro is well known for his work on many cars such s the DMC Delorian and the 1966 Maserati Ghibli. Felix Wankel is a famous engineer and inventor known for inventing the rotary engine. I believe that it is a superior design compared to piston engines, with its disadvantage laying in its late invention and half-baked development. Rotary engines were not used extensively in production cars as they proved to be less reliable than their piston counterparts. However, I believe that had more money and time been spent on fully developing the rotary engine, it would have vastly outperformed piston engines due to its comparatively high power-to-weight ratio and the fact that it vibrates less.
My most memorable experience creating something was about one year ago, where I tried to make a mug, though I could not use it as I used a chemically treated wood. During this semester, I would like to improve my planning and presenting/sharing. On my previous attempts at design, I did not plan my steps out clearly, which left me a bit behind schedule. I also didn’t present my design idea clearly enough to my classmates and teachers. I think I am already doing pretty well at fabrication and using digital design tools such as Adobe Illustrator or Fusion 360.
