Reflection: The change that we faced is our group have three people and we come up with all three different ideas, so we have to collaborate to make three designs to one that we all agree on. Later, we overcome the problem and made an awesome habitat. I am very proud of my group overcoming so many challenges and we can collaborate all the time and had a fantastic exhibition.

This is the link to my first habitat blog post: https://blogs.isb.bj.edu.cn/23shawnw/2018/11/22/my-house-in-2050-3d-printing/

  • My design is repeatable by another person because I show my work clearly.
  •  I realized that the data table (part of the investigative design) might have been an issuein my data collection because it’s too small and it’s not clear.
  • An improvement that I would make if doing this investigation again is to add more information to my data table. Also, I would like to complete the investigation by identifying all ten consent.

This is our table.

This is our Print out top view of the group’s design in scale.

Teamwork: I think we did a good job collaborating. We can decide and create the floorplan for our characters. First, our group ended up with 2 finished designs and both were perfect. We overcame this challenge and decided on one. I really had a great time working with my teammates.

River Field Study – Data Collection 3

Date: November20, 2018. We went to the Wenyu River for field study.

This is the photo of the first quadrant.

The newest data table including today.

I notice that the data of the number of species are getting smaller and smaller. Today, there are no more insects. In January, we will return to the site again and I wonder if the insects are starting to come back.

What? So What? Now What?

What? So What?:

An issue we are facing today that will get worse with a growing population is air pollution.  When I was researching about the problems of today, I read a few articles about the need for fresh air. For example, in “Air pollution could kill 6.6 million people a year by 2050”,  it shows that air pollution can kill 6.6 million people per year by 2050. Also in “Air pollution could kill 6.6 million people a year by 2050”: it saids that if we don’t care about this problem, we can have a bad ending. So I think air will become a big factor in the lives of humans.

Now What?:

One thing I’ve started to do is use bikes to go out instead of using DiDi when is not needed. Also, I’ll make sure to  use less cars.

Stories of the Future: Day Zero

Earlier today:

Three urgent problems:

  1. Solve world hunger
  2. All people have houses
  3. All people get educated

Two questions for the future:

  1. Will all the robot have brains?
  2. Will the robot control humans?

One optimistic or pessimistic:

Later on:

Looking back on today, I think all the topics are connected because you can’t live without any of those things.

I used to think that people getting water is easy or not that hard, but now I think that people don’t have the money or living in a poor place, they have to walk very far to get the dirty water that has many bacteria.

I think is a very real experience, because I realized what will happen in 2050.

Maybe Big Data can put you in Danger!

Many people fear that excessive exposure of our privacy can put us in danger!

 By: Shawn

Big data can breach your privacy and might possibly put your life in danger! Google Map® can know where you went all day, if your data went to a bad person’s hand, you will be “in danger”! Nevertheless, big data can also make our lives more convenient, as we use it to do everyday tasks. This is important, as this means that we constantly give out our personal information to databases, which might save our life one day. However, this is also risky, because if a company sells the data that you give them, you could never retrieve it back. This essay is going to argue that we can give some of our privacy to companies, but not a lot.

Many companies may sell our data because they want to make money off that, and no one is checking if they sell your data. When you give your data to companies, you can’t take it back. According to “The Power of Privacy” The Guardian, it said that companies might have an afterthought, which is selling your privacy, that means when they told you that they wouldn’t sell your data, but later they want to sell it anyway. Also, from that video, it says that if they have a name for you and it goes to bad people’s hand, they can get all your information just in a coup of hours. That explains many hackers can get your information easily. So, don’t give them your privacy if you don’t know the company.

But on the other hand, giving your data to a health company can also save your life. The video “Big Data| Privacy International” by Privacy International says that if you give your personal information to Health Sector Global Development (HSGD), they will know information about you, and that means in case of an emergency, they will know how to help you. IBM Big Data& Analytics Hub by IBM said that 80% of health data from people come from “Health” apps and is stored in hundreds of forms. This means that if you have a Health app on your phone and you complete your personal information form then they will know more about you when you need help. Giving your basic information is not bad, it might help you instead.

Also, did you know that big data could make our lives more convenient? For example, customer connection. This feature allows you to buy things when you want to. “5 Surprising Ways Data can be Used” by John Rampton, said that nowadays many apps can let you contact your seller. This means that you will know more about this commodity when you want to but it. Also, from “5 Surprising ways, data can be used”, another example is patient care. Your doctor might access a database of EKGs to match your patient’s abnormality with others to see what treatment was most effective in the similar case. This means that you will get the best treatment solution and let you be better. Big data can really make our community be more convenient when you use it in your life.

In conclusion, big data has both its strengths and weaknesses with using people’s personal data, as it does make your life more convenient. However, as stated above, it also can become dangerous as you give away your privacy and personal data, but if you want more convenient, then you must give some of your privacy to the companies. Considering all the arguments, it can be concluded that big data does have its advantages but not without the risk of endangering your privacy and safety.

Title: Walking to Building

By: Shawn Wong

My final artwork creation looks like the city landmark in Hong Kong- the Bank of China. It represents the modern world, a city that I would call it my second home. I have chosen Walking to Building as my title because I used my August activity data/graph to create the building.

I carved an outline of the bars of my walking bar graph. I created a building which looks like the famous landmark bank of China of Hongkong. I used green as the background color, then I sprayed some black color lightly over the picture.

I like Hongkong and this Banks of China Hongkong is the landmark of Hong Kong. My Family was planning to go to Hongkong for the national holiday and I was excited about the trip.

I want to show my excitement for the August trip in Hong Kong and I think I have achieved this goal through my artwork by using my activity app data/bar graph to create this Hong Kong city building landscape.

I learned how to carve woods and use spray paints for the first time. In addition, I could use data/graphs to create interest artworks. I think my final piece is what I wanted to show. In the future, I would like to use different kinds of methods to create artwork.
