Part 1: inspiration
Select a photographer that inspire a solution to this project. When choosing Photographers, you should be thinking about:
•You don’t have to have the exact same content – you can choose a photographer based just on their editing or camera techniques and then apply it to your own subject matter.
For your chosen Photographer:
1.Name the artist
2.Describe the intent /message of the photographer/photographs – include references to context
Ansel Adams was trying to promote the conservation of land by showing the landscapes in a new way(Black and white).
3. Analyse their style: Looking at all their images together – Do you notice similar techniques, common elements in the composition, a favored tilt to the camera? Can you determine the technique(s) of the photographer?
Landscape, contrast, black and white.
4.Justify your choice – What are the reasons for your selection? How do these images inspire you? What techniques will you try out in your experiments? How does this photographer creatively represent your chosen subject matter?
He utilises black and white well, which is what I hope to do.
5.Include 4 of their images that inspire. Use visual language to describe similarities in the images (No need to critique at this stage)
Part 2: Critique
The subject of this photograph is a landscape. It’s in black and white, has really good lighting, and the land and the sky are split pretty evenly. The cloud in the sky is really beautiful in this picture, feeling really billowy and puffy. My eye is drawn to the cloud in this picture. The lines in this picture are the mountain ridge and the cloud. The lighting really draws my attention to the sky in this picture, especially the light and dark clouds. An adjective that I would use to describe this picture is floaty. This picture does a really good job of portraying its intention to show the beauty of nature with the majestic cloud and the mountain.
The subject of this photograph is a landscape. It’s in black and white, has really high contrast which makes the land hard to see, and has the land taking up the majority of the picture. The sky’s clouds are a mix of light and dark. My eye is drawn to the top of the mountain in this picture. The lines in this picture are the mountain ridge and the river. The lighting really draws my attention to the sky. An adjective that I would use to describe this picture is dark. This picture doesn’t do the best job of portraying its intention to show the beauty of nature because it’s too dark.
Explain how this style/technique etc. will be incorporated in your next experiments
I will try to use black and white to show the bleakness and hopelessness of being drunk and addicted to alcohol and try to use lighting to achieve the effect of showing how there is an aura of darkness around the drunk.
