The French revolution in plain English

During humanities, we learned about the French revolution, and we were assigned a task to create a video with a group and explain the main events about the French revolution, lately, we must say whether we thought that the French Revolution was worth it or not. We had great teamwork, collaborated really well, and even met up on the weekend to work on our video. We spilt our Text evenly, so we had the same amount of work to do, we did our best on our part.

My book is called fatal fever tracking down typhoid mary by Gail Jarrow
This book is about this dangerous disease that has been spreading through America, during the 1900s, the disease is called typhoid fever. The main character mary is suspected of having typhoid fever and has been spreading the disease to the families that she worked, a scientist wants to undergo tests and surgery on her, but she does not want to, as she thinks that she has never gotten typhoid fever, so it is impossible to spread the disease to others. The theme of my book is making an important decision between freedom and danger.

Two reasons why you should read this book: 1) the events in this book are really similar to covid 19 and tells you a lot of interesting facts about typhoid fever-like how it spreads. 2) This book is really interesting, and on one part of the book, where George Soper was finding Mary, that part was like a mystery novel.

The most important thing I learned was about tryphoid fever, and one interesting fact about tryphoid fever is that even if you have never gotten tryphoid fever or its symptoms, you would still be able to spread it, this was what happened to mary, although she has never gotten tryphoid fever, she was still able to spread it.

Boxer Rebellion CER and ThInglink

I think that boxers deserve a bad reputation because they have done lots of harm and destruction. The boxer rebellion started at Shandong, Shangdong has faced a lot of floods and droughts, which destroyed many of the crops and the villages, there was a drought that lasted for a long time, and many of the crops died, and the resources they have are low, the villagers think that it was the church near the village that was causing the drought, they thought that the church was blocking the sky, so there was no rain, so a group of villagers trained in martial arts decided to attack the church. The attack was successful, and they killed all the foreigners there, they liked the feeling of killing the foreigners, and continue to attack the innocent foreigners, foreign missionaries, and Chinese Christians in Shangdong, they started at Shangdong, but slowly, it led to other parts of China, like Beijing, and they went to other parts of China to kill the foreigners and attack the churches and foreign properties there. Information from Wikipedia, “When they were in Beijing, they were attacking the legation quarters, Chinese soldiers and Boxers set fire to areas north and west of the British Legation, using it as a “frightening tactic” to attack the defenders. The nearby Hanlin Academy, a complex of courtyards and buildings that housed “the quintessence of Chinese scholarship … the oldest and richest library in the world”, caught fire. The Boxers and Chinese soldiers blamed the foreigners for the destruction of the valuable books.”(Wikipedia) This shows that the boxers had a bad reputation, as although it was not completely their fault of thinking that the church was the cause of not raining and attacking the church as they did not get education back then, but they could have stopped after they attacked the church, instead, they continued to kill innocent foreigners, how did nothing offensive to them, when the Boxer’s failed to scare the people in the British legation and ended up burning the oldest and richest library in the world, instead of feeling guilty, they blame it on the foreigners, that just shows how shameless they are.

Humanities Magazine cover for Hermia

I chose the heading “insistent on love” because the character Hermia, loves Lysander, but her father, Egues, wants her to marry Demetrius. Hermia is determined to marrying Lysander, as she would even die than to marry Demetrius. Evidence about Hermian’s characteristics and her appearance is on page 2 and page 5.insistent on love

Five Elements of humanism

The Monkey’s Paw Theme

The story The Monkey’s Paw is about Mr. white got this monkey paw that can grant him three wishes, the monkey paw originally came from an old man, he wanted to show that fate ruled people’s lives and that to interfere with fate only caused deep sadness, so he put a spell on it so that three separate men could each have three wishes from it. Mr. White was the third man that could have three wishes from the paw, he did not listen to the warning and also did not believe it was true in the first place, so he mindlessly made his first wish, but what he did not know was that a great consequence was waiting for him.

The theme of the monkey’s paw is Regret usually comes when people try to inference with fate, as on the first page of the book it written “‘Well, why don’t you have three wishes?’ said Mr. White. The soldier looked at him as if he were a foolish boy. ‘I have,’ he said quietly, and his red face whitened. …. ‘The first man had his three wishes, yes. I don’t know what the first two wishes were but the third was for death. That’s how I got the paw.’” A spell was put on the monkey’s paw, as he wanted to show that fate ruled people’s lives, and that to interfere
with fate only caused deep sadness. When Mr. white asked the solder if he had used his wishes, the solder replied quietly and his face whitened as something bad must have happened to him when he used his three wishes. The first person who used the paw must have also suffered great consequences, that would be the only reason why he used the last wish for death. Mr. White did not listen to the solder’s warning and wish for 200 pounds, and because of that, he faced great consequences. “‘Is he hurt?’ demanded the mother wildly. The visitor looked down. ‘Badly hurt,’ he said quietly. ‘But he’s not in any pain. ..… His face was turned away, confirming her worst fears. She caught her breath and put her trembling hand on her husband’s. There was a long silence. ‘He became trapped in the machinery,’ said the visitor in a low voice.” ‘But in consideration of your son’s services, they wish to give you a certain amount of money as compensation.’ ‘How much?’ he said. ‘Two hundred pounds.’” The great consequence Mr. White faced was the death of his son, this all happened because he did not listen to the solder’s warning and wished for 200 ponds, he got 200 pounds in exchange for his sons’ life. From the words “worst fears” “long silence” “trembling hand” these shows the feeling of despair and sadness.

“Thank You Ma’am” found poem

I chose to use the story “Thank You, Ma’am” by Langston Hughes for my found poem. This story is about how a lady, Mrs jones, changed a boy’s, Roger, life after the boy tried to steal her handbag.
The main conflict in the story is internal conflict, internal conflict is when a character struggles with their own opposing desires or beliefs. In this story, a boy named Roger tried to steal Mrs jones purse but ended up failing, instead of taking Roger to the police station, Ms. Jones takes Roger to her house and lets him wash his face, he even cooks a meal for him. In the poem, it wrote that Roger noticed the door was open and he could run, this was the first internal conflict, Roger has to choose between staying and escaping. At the end of the poem, it wrote that Ms. Jones had gone to cook and did not keep an eye on her purse or Roger, this is the second internal conflict, as this time Roger has to choose between trusting Ms.Jones and staying and not trusting Ms. Jones and takes her purse and escapes. I added a picture of a purse, as the whole story started off by Roger stealing Ms. Jones’s purse.

Mental Health And Technology Assessment

A) Describe how you feel and act when your mental health is thriving in the Green Zone. (Don’t just say ‘normal’ – what does that look like? What does it feel like?)
I feel really happy and relieved, I would be able to cope with the stresses of life and face challenges, and I would be able to maintain good relationships with my family members and friends

B) What are some tech habits and strategies that are keeping you thriving in the Green Zone? Describe them in detail. Also include people who help you with this. How else does using technology have a positive effect on your well-being?
I would keep a positive attitude, and try to remain calm and relaxed, at night, my parents will take away my phone to avoid me using it throughout the night, and during school holidays, my parents would help me set up set screen time, to prevent me from using my phone for too long as doing so, it helped me a lot as if I use my phone throughout the night or use it too long for one day, it will make me unable to sleep well, and it will affect my daily routines.

C) Think about your tech use and habits (social media and/or gaming and/or E-learning). What are the triggers/challenges that take you out of thriving in the Green Zone and into the unsettled/struggling feelings of the Yellow/Orange Zones? Use what you know about the brain, sleep and the effects of tech on mental health as you answer this question.
Teens who spend more time on digital media are more likely to be depressed and unhappy, social media feeds our need for social validation and causes a feeling of missing out if we’re not logged in, if we use the tech before sleep. it will give us eye strains and headaches causing us to be unable to fall asleep.

D) Describe how you feel and act when you are unsettled or struggling in the Yellow/Orange Zones.
I feel stressed and unhappy, I would not be able to cope with the stresses of life and face challenges and might sometimes get mad at my family members or friends for no reason.

E) What are some strategies that you have used to help you get back to the Green Zone? Describe a time when you have used it. Or, if you currently don’t have any strategies, think about the Mindfulness strategies from the previous post. Describe a time when you could have used one of those strategies or habits and how it would have made you feel. Also include people who could help you with this.
I would do things I like to listen to some music, watch youtube or play some video games, these will all help me feel more relaxed, I would also go to the park for a walk and play some badminton with my family members, sometimes I would just take a long nap and I would feel a lot better after the nap.

Product design challenge!

For the last few weeks, I was assigned a task to make an invention to help my friend, Daniel, to make Ramen not stick together after a while. For this project, we were supposed to use the design chart to make our design. we were supposed to first now what we are going to make, then we will start to plan by sketching out our invention and lastly, we will start making the design. I made my design out of a plastic folder and some tape.

My biggest obstacle was that I was not given a lot of time and I did not have certain materials like glue, and it took me quite a while to make a bowl shape for my design.

One thing that I would like to change is that I would make my design slightly smaller, as my design is a bowl so it should be small enough to store it in the cupboard, I would also add more super-thin cutters.

This product addresses the needs of my client by helping him to cut the Ramen when they stick together.

overall, I think this product was successful as we were given a short amount of time, and it solves my friend’s food problem and it is really to use, as all you need to do is press the button at the side of the bowl.
