Design summative , light box

For this product design unit, we made a light box of a place that we couldn’t visit because of COVID. For my light box , I chose to make a place in Jeju, it reminds me of the fun we had there last year. Me and My family were visiting schools there, and before we were about to take a test to go to one of the schools, COVID came here as well, so we went to America.

Skills I learned include, how to use Adobe Illustrator, how to make a scratch card, and how little super glue you need to permanently stick something.  On Adobe Illustrator, I learned how to join two shapes together, make specific shapes, how to ungroup icons, and many more. I also learned that to make scratch paint all you need is acrylic paint and dish wash. Skills I developed include using masking tape, and glueing things together.

Something I learned about myself during this project is that I can get things done faster then I expected. Something I’d like to change about my light box is not painting the rabbit, in my opinion, it would look better. This is because there are lines inside the rabbit and i feel that they would look better compared to how it is now. One piece of advice I would give to a future student doing this project would be not to pick a place to simple, for example mine is a bit too simple, pick something with a some detail but not too much. Pick something that you know you can handle. My biggest obstacle was the painting part because it was really hard to paint the rabbit without covering the design, so I just painted the whole thing. My biggest success was putting it all together.Overall I think my light box was a success because the size of the layers were perfect, they all glued on perfectly, the lights fit nicely, and it looks quite nice.

Percy Jackson, informative assignment

In Percy Jackson and the Olympians (THE LIGHTNING THEIF), page 1-45.  Percy‘s behavior and attitude has quite an impact on his life, after all he cannot control his emotions, he gets distracted easily, and he gets bad grades. Percy also has a positive relationship with Grover and his mom, but he does not have a positive relationship with many people, for example Nancy Bobofit, nevertheless these actions can be improved.

Because of ADHD, Percy does not control his emotions well. Percy can easily get fed up/angry, he also blurts things out without thinking. ‘I tried to stay cool, the school counselor had told me a million times, close your eyes and count to ten’ This tells us that he was trying to control his emotions by using the way his counselor had told him. Even with what the counselor told him, Percy still could not control his emotions. This proves that Percy is not good at controlling his emotions. On page 5 of the book Percy says‘Will you shut up? It came out louder than I meant’ This quote shows one of the symptoms of ADHD (blurting out things in class). According to the Newsela article ‘Hyperactivity means being overly active. The symptoms include fidgeting, difficulty playing quietly or waiting for a turn and blurting out answers in class.’ This shows that ADHD has an impact in his life, it’s also a reason why he cannot control his emotions that well. Another ADHD symptom is often losing items, not paying attention to details or making careless mistakes in school and not listening most of the time. Getting easily distracted and avoiding activities that require focus’.  ‘I started feeling cranky and irritable most of the time. My grades slipped from Ds to Fs. I get into more fights with Nancy Bobofit and her friends. I was sent out into the hallway in almost every class.’ (pg. 17) From this quote you can see that Percy doesn’t normally pay attention in class, he makes careless mistakes and his grades have been slipping a lot. These are all symptoms of ADHD. However, these symptoms may be fixed, with different ways like certain medications that can adjust the amounts of different chemicals in the brain. This can help improve focus and behavior. Another treatment is behavioral therapy. In this kind of therapy children and teens practice new ways to react when they feel distracted or fidgety. This could help Percy improve his behavior in school and help him focus better and get better grades.

Positive relationships have an impact on Percy’s life. Percy likes his friend and his mom. ‘My mother can make me feel good just by walking into the room’(pg.29) This shows that Percy has a strong relationship with his mom and he really likes her. ‘There is compelling evidence that strong relationships contribute to a long, healthy and happy life.’ In addition, according to the article Percy will live a happy, healthy life. ‘Grover tried to calm me down’ This states that Grover cares about him. In the article it states that the support offered by a caring friend can provide a buffer against the effects of stress, this means that since he has a positive relationship with Grover (his caring friend) he will deal with less stress. However, he does not have a positive relationship with many people, for example Nancy Bobofit‘I put up with this girl named Nancy, the freckly red head hitting my best friend Grover in the back of the head, with chunks of peanut butter and ketchup sandwich.’ This proves that Percy does not have a positive relationship with Nancy Bobofit but he can improve it by asking intentional questions. These questions can create more meaningful conversations. (suggested by Nelson the friendship expert) This could help Percy not dislike Nancy as much or maybe even become friends with her.

From all the above even though Percy can’t manage his emotions well, gets distracted easily, gets bad grades, does not have many positive relationships, these actions may still be developed and fixed.

Welcome to Your New Blog!

When you blog you create posts and posts are categorised according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you. If you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:

  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category.
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This can include text, images, embedded videos from Dragons’ Tube or elsewhere. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
