Resources for Departing Students
If you cannot see the embedded presentation above, please make sure you are logged into your ISB Office 365 account.
As you get ready to depart ISB, there is a good chance that there are digital resources that you would like to take with you. This page will guide you through the four following situations:
- Downloading Files from OneDrive
- Copying Sections from OneNote
- Exporting Some (or All) of Your Email
- Exporting Your Blog
- Using TimeMachine to Backup and Restore Your Files
Before you get started, you may want to consider creating a new email account at Outlook.com. This will be absolutely necessary if you want to copy sections from OneNote, and could make exporting some of your email easier. It’s a pretty straightforward process and should only take a few minutes at most.
Downloading Files from OneDrive
Most students will have stored their school work in OneDrive. When your account is deleted 90 days after you leave, anything that is in your OneDrive will also be deleted.
To download files in bulk from either your Groups or from OneDrive, follow the steps below. It works best if you use Stuffit Expander to open the .zip file at the end.
Copying Sections from OneNote
Many students have made good use of OneNote in their classes. If you would like to take copies of your OneNote notebooks, you will need to ensure you have another Microsoft account (either from your new school or by using Outlook.com). You will also need to go through the process one section at a time so be prepared for this to take a bit of time!
Exporting Some (or All) of Your Email
There are three methods of taking some/all of your email with you detailed below:
- forward the emails you want to your personal address
- quickly copy some over to your new outlook.com account
- create an email archive to be opened using Outlook (desktop) in the future
Exporting Your WordPress Blog
Lots of schools around the world are using WordPress as their blogging platform. This means you may have some content on your blog that can be used in your new school. Even if they don’t use WordPress, the work that you have done on your blog could be a great representation of the learning that took place in your class here at ISB and you may want to preserve that as part of your professional portfolio. If you don’t have access to a blog at your new school, you can always create one for free at WordPress.com.
Using TimeMachine to Backup and Restore Your Files
Most of you have been backing up your computer regularly so this should be an easy one. Make sure you copy the files that you will need from your computer to an external hard drive. If you have been using TimeMachine, there are some things you need to remember if you are going to do a complete restore.
As always, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to find your friendly Ed Tech Facilitator or TA!
