Welcome back to ISB and the 2017-18 school year. Hopefully your children have settled into their school routines. If you are not aware, this week is ASA Registration.
Please note that ASA registration begins today, Monday, August 28th. Registration will conclude on Monday, September 4th at noon. The ASA Registration process is not a “first come, first serve basis”. All selections are computer generated, so please take your time this week with your child and go over all the selections in the ASA program.
Additionally, please welcome Ms. Angie Wang who will take over for Lexie Qi in the Activities Office. Angie will help run the ASA program. During this week, if you have any questions, or need any help, always feel free to stop by the activities office and let us know how to assist.

Baby Dragons – is a development program for students in grades K-2 who are already on their way to being strong swimmers. Sessions and times will depend on chosen days on the form, which will begin from the week of November 28th until the end of the school year. Please complete the attached Entry form Baby Dragon Swimming 2017 and return to the swim office by November 23rd. Assessments for all new swimmers for this program take place on the 29th of November.
Important Information to Consider
UES Swim Season is not open to children that make it into Swim Academy.
Baby Dragons from last season may begin practices from November 28th.
Grade K-2 – if your son/daughter is wishing to swim in the year-round program time trials, or being assessed for Baby Dragons in November then you MUST accompany them to the pool when these take place, they are not permitted to go alone. If you are not there to collect them from class on the designated day, they will be sent home as per their usual arrangement.
To take part in either the time trials for The Swimming Academy, UES season or the Baby Dragons program, you MUST complete the relevant registration form attached and turn that back in to the pool office by the deadline dates.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are unsure of your child’s ability, we would advise to schedule an appointment with the Aquatics Director to assess your child’s suitability for either the UES season or Academy offerings. Baby Dragons assessments will take place on November 29th but it must be stressed that for safety reasons, all Baby Dragon assessment swimmers should be able to swim 1 lap of Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke.
School picture days are taking place this month, NOT next month. Please accept my apologies for any confusion I caused by posting the wrong month earlier today. It has been corrected on the original post.
School photos, taken each year, are used for yearbooks and school identification; prints are also available for purchase. Parents, who wish to, will be able to order photos online. Parents will receive a proof of their child’s photo 2-3 weeks after the photo session, along with instructions on how to order and pay online, through PayPal or credit card. Products ordered will be delivered to school and distributed in due course. Please check with your child’s homeroom teacher, divisional office, or Dragons’ Gate Calendar for further details.
Wondering about the swimming unit in PE? This post from the PE blog should answer all your questions. To receive the most up-to-date information about your child’s physical education at ISB, subscribe to the PE blog by clicking on this link.
Half of the 5th grade will begin swimming in PE the week starting September 7. The other half of the 5th grade will swim May 3- June 5. Please see below for information on when each class will swim and what is required:
September 7 – October 17
May 3- June 5
This is a great opportunity for your child to improve swimming and water safety skills while participating in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere. Please read the following guidelines below so as to have your child ready to begin his or her swimming lessons:
Girls should wear a one-piece bathing suit. Boys may wear Speedos, trunks or knee length Lycra suits; however, it is not convenient to wear bathing suits that are below their knees. Please check the condition of your child’s suit. To ensure that the children do not forget their bathing suits for their swim lessons, all children will leave their suits hanging in a designated place at the pool. When they arrive for their next lesson, their suits will be there, dry and waiting for them. Please clearly write your child’s name on their bathing suit.
GOGGLES & CAPS:
Students can make do with basic, inexpensive goggles that are comfortable for them. Swimming Caps should be worn by all students with long hair as it makes swimming comfortable and is much more practical. At the very least, long hair should be tied back. Again, the students will leave their goggles here at the pool until the swimming unit is complete. Please clearly write your child’s name on the cap and goggles.
Each class, a clean towel is provided for all students participating in swimming.
It is our belief in the PE department that if a child is attending school, then they are generally well enough to participate in all classes including Physical Education/Swimming. If your child is sick, please keep them at home. If they are well enough to be at school, then they are expected to participate.
This is a great opportunity for your child to receive professional and high quality instruction from qualified and experienced aquatic staff. Students will experience a safe and friendly environment that allows them to develop their confidence in a variety of aquatic activities. Support your child in this program. Swimming is a life skill!!
For inquiries regarding this unit, feel free to contact the Aquatics Program Coordinator, Coach Nic Wilson Email: firstname.lastname@example.org Phone: 81492345 ext. 1601
