ISB Middle School Superstars are Shining

I’m very proud to announce our latest Principal’s List, which is quite possibly the largest we have ever had with 120 nominations from teachers.  The students recognized here have set an example for the entire ISB community.  They have shown what it means to live our school’s mission in very challenging circumstances.  These students have been supported in their work by their peers, their teachers, and by their parents, so we can all celebrate their success!

Grade 6
Adrianna Ji has committed to eLearning 100%. She always produces work to the highest quality. She recently challenge herself to take on extension work. She should be proud of top effort.
Brian Huang has shown 100% dedication for learning Mathematics this semester and he is always be one of the first student who completes work to the instructions closely.
Sophie Yao continues to maintain a positive attitude throughout the eLearning process.  She responsibly completes all tasks and assignments to the best of her ability.  Her Our Stories Make History Final Project (specifically her performance piece playing the violin) demonstrated challenging and joyful learning.
Behr Ridlon has been working very hard for mathematics during this eLearning. He completes his work before deadlines and asks for help when he is unsure. Recently he even challenges himself with some extension mathematics work. He is a very responsible learner that inspires others around him to do better too.
Behr Ridlon has shown great motivation and responsibility in learning Chinese by doing extended learning tasks.
During this time of E-learning, Merle Novak has been in Europe working with a tricky time zone. Merle has checked in daily to ask questions, or even just to say hello. She has watched all Zoom recordings diligently and does her absolute best to maintain contact. I have been beyond impressed with Merle’s responsibility and attitude during this time.
Luis Lee has been amazing during this e-learning time. He single handedly orchestrated a book club the second week of e-learning and has kept the book club going strong. Luis has been an incredibly happy, positive member of our learning community during this time. I am incredibly proud of him!
Hana Parker has been such a bright light during this time of e-learning. She has been stuck outside of the country, missing home, and still she gives her all 100% of the time. Hana has been present and almost every single live lesson and if she isn’t there, an apology quickly follows. She is do dedicated to her studies and to improving as a learner. I admire how responsible she is-especially during these difficult times.
Jia Lee has impressed me with her thinking outside the box. She consistently puts in maximum effort and pushes herself to her absolute best every single day. Jia has been a very present member of our classroom community during this time of e-learning. I have learned so much from her over the past three months.
Jason Yang has been coined “the devourer of books”. It is not uncommon for me to open my computer for the day and have an ask for the next great book to read. He has been so dedicated to his reading that he or his mom will pick up bags and bags of books from the guard gate. He is inspiring me to read more!
Sixing Wang is an excellent student who is not afraid to take on extra responsibilities. He is very helpful to others.
Hana Parker has given her best in completing her eLearning tasks since the very beginning. She has met all challenges positively.
Eve Poulson has done an amazing job during e-learning. She has chosen to enter into a book club with a fellow classmate, without being expected to. During that time, Eve and her classmate pushed each other’s thinking and met with me regularly to discuss their learning. I have been so impressed with Eve’s dedication to her learning!
Grace Xia has done an amazing job during e-learning. She has chosen to enter into a book club with a fellow classmate, without being expected to. During that time, Grace and her classmate pushed each other’s thinking and met with me regularly to discuss their learning. Grace has consistently kept in touch to ask questions and check for understanding. I have been so impressed with Grace’s dedication to her learning!
Irene Tong is a very cheerful student who always seek clarification when she doesn’t understand the problem. She sets a good examples for others on how to deal with learning issues. She has made significant improvement of her academy study during this eLearning.
Merle Novak has attended all the science Zoom meetings and comes with a positive attitude and smile on her face!  She has worked very hard through some challenging assignments and has focused on doing her best work during the eLearning period.
Ania Edkin has demonstrated great responsibility and challenged herself by always doing her best in learning Chinese.
Rachel Kang has been a star both in Humanities and in Mentoring. She turns up to every meeting with a positive attitude and a smile. She brings stories and laughter to her Mentoring group, and completes all of her Humanities work with attention and care. Rachel’s positive attitude during this time has been nothing short of inspiring!
Jaden Yen consistently attends Zoom sessions. She asks clarifying questions and willingly participates in discussions. I appreciate Jaden for taking ownership of her learning and positive attitude. Thanks Jaden!
Geoffrey Liu appears regularly in Zoom sessions, asking clarifying questions when needed. He consistently has a positive attitude. I appreciate Geoffrey for taking ownership of his learning. Thanks Geoffrey!
Grace Huang attends every science and homework help zoom I offer. She never hesitates to ask questions or share her thinking. She shows interest in sharing her thoughts with others, related to her learning. I am proud of Grace for her diligence and perseverance even during difficult and changing times.
Nanda Kishore Riju Shibi has maintained a positive attitude throughout the duration of eLearning, even when circumstances were very difficult. He regularly attends class Zoom meetings, completes all work on time, and asks questions to clarify his understanding…and he does it all with a smile.
Grace Huang has taken the eLearning bull by its horns and has done a remarkable job of keeping up with her assignments in a way that demonstrates tremendous thought and effort. She is committed to her tasks, attends all Zoom meetings, and wants to do her very best at all times.
Jonathan Hong regularly attends Zoom sessions. He shares a deeper level thinking when constructing explanations. I appreciate Jonathan for his consistent positive attitude. Thanks Jonathan!
Lily Zhou has been a constant, thoughtful, and positive presence during eLearning. Lily consistently tries hard and always gives her best effort.
Max Li submitted a phenomenal and inspiring “Our Stories Make History” final project and always tries his very best. He has used this challenging period to explore new hobbies and passions, and consistently participates with a positive and energetic spirit.
Sofia Zhu has shown great responsibility during eLearning. She tries hard and is considerate and thoughtful towards her peers and teachers. She demonstrates enthusiasm for learning under challenging circumstances and her positive attitude and growth mindset are appreciated.
Angelina Zhou never hesitates to ask questions. She attends every Zoom session and is usually the first to have her assignment uploaded into Dx. She is responsible, has a great attitude and is helpful to others. Thanks Angelina!
Lily Zhou consistently takes ownership of her learning by demonstrating deeper level thinking in written responses. She is alway willing to share her thinking in class. Thanks Lily!
Brynn Comes has shown a great level of responsibility for her learning. She has been one of the most consistent students since the start of eLearning in her participation and completion of assigned tasks.
Christina Ryu has shown a great level of responsibility for her learning. She has always given her best to complete her eLearning tasks and she is always prepared to go beyond the expectations.
Angel Yin has demonstrated responsibility and impressive creativity in creating a detailed and artistic reading notebook during our current reading unit. She should be proud of her efforts and attention to detail. She has created an artifact that can serve as an example for future 6th-grade students.

Brynn Comes consistently attends Zoom sessions and/or participates regularly in class. She does not hesitate to share her thinking with a positive mindset. I appreciate Brynn for her curious mind and willingness to express her opinion or share her knowledge. Thanks Brynn!

Andrew Luo brings such joy to his learning of Spanish. He pushes himself to use the language in new and creative ways.
Oliver Pap is a truly kind soul who brings an amazing attitude to everything he does. He treats everyone with the utmost respect and can work with any of his peers.
Grace Huang has been thoughtful and very consistent member of the Smile Week committee.  She joined despite having not previously been involved with StuCo, but her desire to take responsibility and serve others has been outstanding.  Not only has she taken on and completed a variety of tasks for our committee, she has also demonstrated creativity by suggesting additional great ideas that have either been taken up for this Smile Week or that could be great StuCo projects next year.  She has never missed a meeting and always contributes.  Her presence has been much appreciated.
Grade 7
Eric Liu has overcome early struggles with e-learning to take responsibility for his learning and put in a strong effort academically as we come down the homestretch this school year.
In Quarter 4, Yuni Seol has turned things around and is performing like an all-star.  Way to go Yuni!
Emily Cai has an eternally positive attitude, and faces each task and activity with a “can-do” attitude!

Despite many obligations and activities tacked on to her schedule during our e-learning experience, Hannah Cho has worked hard and taken risks in her learning, which has resulted in growth and development of important skills. Good work Hannah!
Josh Ding has had a great attitude towards learning since the start of the year in August, and this has continued with e-learning–he has not slowed down! I appreciate his hard work and attention to detail of thought.

Yuki Layman has not only been one of the most diligent students in the class, but also a very helpful one. She is always happy to help her classmates with technical issues.
George Xu worked with Mr. McEvoy to develop the form that will be used by all ISB students, staff and parents to “Send Smiles” during Smile Week.
Ethan Anderton has shown amazing effort in responsibility since our e-learning experience began, up to the present. I am constantly impressed with his willingness to improve his work and his conscientiousness towards getting all of his work submitted on time and with quality attention to detail. Bella Benz has been a very compassionate and sympathetic listener in all of our mentoring meetings. She is always willing to lend an ear to other’s thoughts and ideas, and has been a consoling force throughout. I appreciate her willingness to help out in any way possible to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome. I am lucky to have such a caring person in both my classes and mentoring group! Jizhen Li was a new student in January, and barely had enough time to get used to ISB when we were thrust into E-learning due to Covid19. However, I have been very impressed with his positive attitude and his willingness to do his very best. He asks great questions and is never hesitant to speak up when he is unclear about anything we are doing. I am really proud of how hard he has worked this year–and being new to our school. Asher Sevy has been one of the most engaged students since the beginning of eLearning. He has participated in all learning tasks with effort and commitment.
Asher Sevy co-led the Smile Week Assembly for Grades 6, 7, and 8 this week. He put in countless hours collaborating with STUCO teachers and members and did so always with enthusiasm, positive energy, and the will to help others.
Throughout the year, Christina Lin has never missed a due date on the assignments and always been positive to help others in Orchestra.

Throughout the entire Elearning duration Christina Lin has consistently turned in quality work on time.  She has created several interesting musical projects that show creativity and quality.
Asher Sevy has been engaged in all of eLearning this semester.  He has created a very interesting leitmotif in the style of Star Wars and has done all of his work to a very high standard.

Mea Maki brings a true interest in Spanish to class, and she hasn’t wavered in here commitment to her learning at all throughout the time of the pandemic. She comes to each lesson ready to give her best and to share honestly, authentically and kindly.
Eric Ge”s work in PE is always high quality.  It is a reflection of his positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Richard Park’s PE posts are often the highlight of my day.  He has not only completed EVERY PE post since eLearning began, but he has done so with humor and effort.
Cyrus Choi has worked hard this year on MS StuCo projects.  He’s always there at every meeting and he always volunteers to get the hard work done that goes into creating great service projects like Smile Week and more.  His consistency and level of responsibility are outstanding attributes of his and he has been a wonderful collaborator.
Eric Ge has been a driving force behind all planning for Smile Week, he participated on every committee, sharing his thoughts and completing an astronomical number of tasks. Eric has a positive attitude and took on each task with energy and grace. He has become one of the “faces” of Smile Week in the MS, I am so impressed with his leadership and the way he moves forward with both purpose and compassion.
Brian Fan has worked tirelessly to make Smile Week happen. He has been involved in every committee and volunteers to complete tasks with no hesitation. He has been determined to make the Minecraft competition work, and it has come together because of his diligence. He has demonstrated both purpose and compassion repeatedly during the preparation for Smile Week. We are impressed with his leadership skills and ability to get things done.
